Seahawks, Marshawn Lynch have in deal place for 2015
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(2/21/15) The Seahawks and running back Marshawn Lynch have a deal in place to bring him back for the 2015 season, according to CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora.
The deal, which is expected to be announced in the coming days, would be worth $12 million in the first year and $9 million in the second.

Lynch's agent, Doug Hendrickson, said there is no deal done, but La Canfora reports the deal is on the table and will result in a signing.

Lynch, who was reportedly considering retirement, ran for 1,306 yards in 2014 on 280 carries with 13 touchdowns.

2 year deal works perfectly for the situation.

Guys, It's probably a dumb question but could someone tell me why Lynch needs a new contract when on SPOTRAC it says his cap hit is 8.5 next season?

Same reason why they'd be working on extensions for Wilson and Wagner this year despite the fact that their contracts also run through 2015. The team wants to keep these guys on the roster for longer than one more year and it's easier to get that done ahead of time than it would be to wait until they had more competition for these players' services at the end of the 2015 season. For Lynch, if he wants to keep playing beyond 2015, it's in his best interest financially to secure those extra years and that extra cash now coming off of the year he just had rather than wait until the end of the 2015 season and potentially lose out on cash and/or a chance to continue his career with the Seahawks or any other team if his 2015 season doesn't go as well as his 2014 season did.

No way he wants to play that out when he can get 17+ guaranteed (whether injured or not).

Few stars, particularly aging ones, serve out their final year. Teams don't want their stars to find out what they might be worth on the open market, and players want more built in security in case of career ending injury.

Shefter reporting there's an agreement on a new deal, with Lynch flying back to Seattle as pictured above and Paul Allen coming in to meet him in Seattle. Good news if true and if it's a sensible contract that doesn't end up paying him more for less production.

According to ESPN Lynch new deal is a one year deal for 11 million. 1 million base , 9 million signing bonus and a 1 million roster bonus. Not sure if it's helps or hurt the cap next year. Usually you can spread the signing bonus, but since it is a one year deal, maybe not. Got to be a reason to structure it this way, instead of a straight up salary.

Any thoughts on this?

ESPN said it was a new contract, no mention of extension . So a one year deal, it seems. The only reason I can think of to structure it this way is that Lynch gets cash up front rather then in increments during the season.

One thing about a one year deal, it tells me the Seahawks best prepare themselves for life with out Lynch after this season. As they stand right now, they aren't to well prepared. Wilson needs some weapons at WRs, the Seahawks have tried, signing Harvin is a example, drafting Richardson, is another. They need to strike gold in this draft at the WR position IMO. Rumors have it that the Seahawks are interested in J. Thomas, which would really upgrade the TE position. Not sure if something like this is legit, given the number of suitors he will have, also not a great blocker, which is important for a TE for the Seahawks.

One thing for certain, this is a ultra important draft for the Seahawks. Let's hope they ace it.:hope:

Marshawn Lynch agrees to three-year, $31 million deal | ProFootballTalk

3 years, 31 million

The deal includes $12 million for the 2015 season, which breaks down to a $7.5 million signing bonus and a $4.5 million fully-guaranteed base salary.

Lynch would make a base salary of $9 million in 2016 and another $7 million in 2017 to go along with a $3 million roster bonus due on the fifth day of the 2017 league year.

OK, color me confused. Guess we'll just have to wait for it to become offical. Because different sources reporting different terms.
Mmmm looks like ESPN removed their earlier report.

Report: Marshawn Lynch agrees on deal to return to Seahawks : Fantasy News

". John Clayton reported that the contract is a one-year, $11 million deal, with a $1 million salary, $1 million roster bonus and $9 million signing bonus."

Looks like John Clayton got it wrong.

Yeah, I'm seeing the Clayton 1 year deal, ESPN is now reporting 2 years, and NBC is reporting 3 years...I guess we'll see. But, the drama appears to be over, and the focus can move elsewhere.

Now it's about how it effects the cap. Looking forward to knowing for sure what the deal is and how it effects the cap.
