You fell victim to one of the classic blunders.
I might have an easier way to get the negative stats. Would have to wait until i get home.
Any other names you want me to look up?
You guys... quit giving me homework!!!
Actually, i tried yesterday. Not easy. Even tried doing a "streak" stat search of games with at least 1 carry for zero or less yards. Didnt get the results i we are looking for.
The much-involved stat would mean taking EVERY SINGLE PLAY for a season and then extracting the plays for zero or negative yards. (And then remove all players except for RB.)
Its one reason I only did this stat once.
And then to go back for each season that Barry, Emmitt and Walter played in... no thank you.
Yeah. I hear ya. Just hard to gauge. Two completely different teams.
Early 90’s Boys and Skins eh? Nah, can’t say I recall.
No biggie i figured out how to do it for 1 player at a time Adrian Peterson does have the "record" for most negative runs with 395 and is 2nd in yards lost with 848
PFR only tracks the stat back to 98 here are a few notable guys
Emmitt 221 -508 (I would love to find his pre 98 stats)
Gore 340 -665
Lynch 260 -556
McCoy 335 -815
Sanders 336 -952* stat from a SI article
Seriously? All time leading rusher, all time rushing TD leader, 3 time SB champ, SB MVP, 8 time pro bowler, 6 time all pro, NFL MVP, HOF. There are not ten RB's in league history with more impressive resumes. There can be debate as to wether he was the best, for sure, but top ten? That's not a question
Jusy a guess.
But also, find me 1 RB in the last 40 years who danced behind the line and consistently played for contending football teams. I don’t think that player exists.
RBs are taught to find the hole and hit it and churn out those positive yards and hit the second level when you can.
We will never know what Emmitt would have done in a Lions uniform or what Barry would have done in a Cowboy uniform.
Most people rank Brady as the GOAT even though there are other QBs out there with better stats, who played their entire careers without the greatest coach of all time. The same argument applies to Emmitt/Barry here. And there is a very legitimate case for despite his brilliance, Sanders’ style hurt his team at times.

There I could at least see the debate, there's Jim Brown, Walter Peyton, and then Emmitt and Barry. To me he's #3, #4 at the very worst, but I could at least see the reasoning if someone wants to slide Dickerson, Dorset, Faulk, or LT in there as well. Gale Sayers always gets an honorable mention in my book, as he could've been the very best ever, just didbt have the time in to accumulate the numbers. Bo Jackson too for that matter, but that's seriously stretching things.Maybe top 10 is a cinch. Possibly not top 5.
So... should Foot take Barry or Emmitt?
true, kind of what I’m getting at...Barry and Shady had some sideways thrillers and stinkers. But different animals.
I’d like to see “4th quarter carries with a lead” stat.
teams make players...doesn’t mean there aren’t great players, better and worse players, but it’s all about situation when we’re talking careers.
Robert Woods didn’t change or get better (other than experience progression, like most)... but he wouldn’t have sniffed 90-1100 yet, if he stayed with Buffalo, yet only injury can keep him from it with the Rams.
So... should Foot take Barry or Emmitt?
Either of those 3 might do better than his annual super duper deep sleeper pick.aren’t you listening?? Thurman Thomas is the pick.
Nope your rightYeah top 5 is very debatable and i doubt many would agree with mine
Faulk
Allen
Smith
Davis
Payton
Homer.aren’t you listening?? Thurman Thomas is the pick.
