Cousins numbers are equal or better than Staffords each year. Detroit paid Stafford a ton of $$ and nearly all experts applauded them for doing so. The Skins need to sign him quickly because he is prime right now. I have to think there will be teams throwing money at him left and right.

there will be teams throwing money at him IF he hits free agency with no restrictions. Some of these fans need to take a minute and listen to what people outside of DC (Fans as well as sports writers) are saying. In Denver, JAcksonville Fl and a few other places, his name has come up. And the majority of the fans in those locations are saying.. if the Skins dont want him there respective teams should jump at the chance to sign him.

Wow, Cousins on Jacksonville would make them the best team in the league (at least on of them).

If the opportunity doesn’t come often, I would say it is lucky to be in place.

If that's the case then an argument could be made that every defensive player in football is simply lucky whenever he gets an INT. As INTs for defensive players continue to drop even as every passing metric continues to increase.

A team faces 30 passes each game and has numerous opportunities to stop the opposing team. An individual gets a few chances and can be avoided or double teamed.

And yet INT rates from a team defense standpoint continue to drop as passing continues to increase.

Unfortunately the going price for a franchise QB has gone through the roof. And given that there are a handful of franchise QBs whose contracts expire within the next year or so, its only going to get worse. Cousins may get $28-30M/per year this year. Next year, that will realistically be up to $32-34M. The skins will be again be behind the 8 ball if they do something stupid and franchise tag him one last time.

You seem to be missing the point.

My only point has been that while they have been few and far in-between. When opportunity presents itself. The Skins defense minus one player has made plays. Like they did at the end of multiple games in 2016. We've had guys make a few plays this year on defense. Unlike 2016 though, not many in crunch time.

Draft a QB in rounds 3-5 to develop, then sign Alex Smith when the Chiefs release him in the summer…Skins won’t miss a beat in QB production.

I would wager my left, and right nut that this TEAM would be much better with a QB equal to KC’s skill set that actually wants to be a REDSKIN...and that BTW is Alex Smith.

If Kirk does not want to be in Washington, then it stems from how he has been treated. I watched a show on him and RG3, wish I could remember what it was called, but it was pretty enlightening. How owner and GM did not even talk to him with RG3 there, how he was winning when RG3 was hurt and owner would walk in locker room and sit with RG3 and talk about how it was his team within ear shot of Kirk, basically dissing him to his face the whole time.

Then this last 3 years of gaggle screwing around on this franchise crap. Who could blame Kirk for wanting out

That would be understandable. You can't really settle down and make a place your home when you are going off of 1 year contracts. It's time to lock him up for 5 years or so. He's proven to be consistent.

I know what you are saying. I am saying opportunity presents itself to those who consistently put themselves in position to make plays. I am saying we were lucky to be in position.

And I understand what you're saying and while we may disagree on this particular subplot. I believe we're in agreement that as far as the main plot goes. Our defense sucks swollen blue whale nuts.

Cooley stated this morning that a source outside of the organization told him that Kirk Cousins told the Skins that there was no way he would return if QB coach Kevin O'Connell wasn't there.

O'Connell was offered a position by Chip Kelly on the UCLA staff and the Skins blocked it. I guess that's a good sign if you believe Cooley's source.

Chip Kelly will have to find a Plan B

Blocked or promoted? O'Connell will be the Redskins "Passing game Coordinator" next season.

They could block him from taking a lateral move inside the NFL. But if he decided to go down to the NCAA level, nothing the Skins could do to stop him aside from a raise and a promotion.

So odds are it was either a promotion in title and a pay bump. Or he just decided working for the old Chipster just might not be a sound career move if he has aspirations of moving up in the NFL coaching food chain.

I assume they promoted him to block UCLA on a sense.

Chipster hasn't done so well since he left Phil Knights school. :noidea:
