If they made the trailer to send a message to the actress or amuse those who closely follow the industry, that's a pretty small audience. And maybe they did.
It could be a version of 80/20, though. There is a large population that is aware of the smoke around this movie. If you acknowledge that smoke and commit 2 seconds of the trailer to maybe swaying a portion of that audience, there is a lot of ROI potential there.
I'd probably argue they are making fun of the whole discussion of itself which is more about the 'haters' than Zegler imo.

I just think the press feels obligated to save the young minority actors and actresses that get saddled into these ill conceived movies. I dont think critics should need to do this. Many famous actors from my generation were in embarrassing movies in the 80s and 90s.
I just hope the critics don’t throw out their shoulders patting themselves on the back for their loud and proud white knighting. Especially for an actress who was soooo unlikable in the press over the last 2 years that she absolutely deserves every bit of venom tossed her way.
