If anyone wanted him for a second the Lions would have jumped. That's what they could get and obviously what his value is.

Slay missed more time than ever before last season and was clearly a me first guy that rubbed Quinn and Patricia the wrong way.

I would not have given Slay 50 million for 3 or 30 for two. He is a #2 at this point in his career and the Lions got better value at a cheaper cost in Trufant.

Slay was pretzeled by Keenan Allen and he is not getting any younger. I expect he will give the Eagles a good year but not sure it will be as a #1 corner.

Eagles have a pass rush and don't rely upon their CB covering for 6 seconds. Although they've had terrible luck with lots of injuries with all of their CB the last couple of years.

Slay played pretty damn good the first year MP came here and the defense got better after Snacks came into the fold.

All CB have a bad series or even games.

I won't dispute his play wasn't at the level in 2019 as in previous years but that injury laden defense on the D-Line sure as hell didn't help any of the secondary.

You seriously thought I was joking about the drafting of a Punter.

O'HARA: Braden Mann's familiarity with Lions could make him a draft fit

Mann had a good feeling about the relationship he'd established with Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia, who was coaching the North team.

The rapport he'd built with Patricia in a short period of time was important for Mann, given that the Lions could be in the market for a punter – in the draft or free agency – with Sam Martin likely to enter free agency after seven solid seasons as the Lions' punter.

Mann was a record-setting punter his last two seasons at Texas A&M. He averaged 51.0 yards on 50 punts, with a long punt of 82 yards in 2018. In 2019 he averaged 47.1 yards on 57 punts, with a long punt of 68 yards.

Mann also handled kickoffs all four years.

Why wouldn't we just resign Sam Martin?
Dude is solid. No reason to fix what isn't broke.

Looks like the Eagles are giving pick #85 in their 3rd round. They also have a 3rd round comp pick at #103.

No word on which of their 5th round picks it is but doesn't matter all that much when they're #166 and #168.

A total value of 188 points for Slay.

2020 NFL Trade Value Chart

Too bad Bobby couldn't swing a deal for their 2nd round, #53, and that latter 3rd round, #103, for Slay and our 3rd round #67. It would've been a 203 point value but Bobby could've had some leverage to move around.

Could of just summed it up as...
We are trading our best player on defense for two picks that will most likely not contribute shit to the Lions winning any games next season.

He somewhat struggled in 2017 and 2018 when he had re-occurring hamstring and quad issues.

BQ also chopped off over a million from his salary last year.

@Mebert pointed out BQ's better success rate for 3rd round picks than his 2nd round picks, so you have that going for us.

When you drop your fan colored glasses and look at this from a completely neutral standpoint the move becomes a lot more obvious.

First of all the Lions are absolutely loaded on defense as they proved last year. Getting just a little bit worse shouldn't hurt them at all. Second perhaps the only thing stronger than their starting quality is their extradoniary depth. Those young guys out there have proven they're ready to step their game up and take over some playing time. And finally third all that depth we have out there is because of the masterful job this team does drafting and developing players. Especially late round players, where they always seem to find those hidden gems that other teams never do.

Tldr version = Lions are so good at drafting, and so strong on defense that extra late round picks will help us way more on the field than proven pro bowl starters.

Wouldn't it be better to pay just one guy to fuck up your team like the Texans are doing, instead of paying two?

Signing mediocre talent in free agency and drafting a TE in the top 10 is one thing.
Stiffing the punter for a million is going over the line.

Slay is worth 50 million dollars to the Eagles and all Quinn could pull off is a top 100 pick and a meaningless 5th rounder?
Hey now, that meaningless 5th rounder that we're getting from the Eagles is going towards drafting our 2020 starting Punter.

wait and see.
Pretty sure BQ has drafted two CB's in the 5th round. Can we play... the "third time" is the charm CARD? The Lions only down graded a little bit on Slay when they signed CB Desmond Trufant for 6 million less.

So Slay vs Patricia is blowing up. Fatty is obviously a fat prick, but Slay has some sensitive diva in him. He would get eaten alive in the PF.

That's almost a requirement of CB's.

Don't get me wrong I think Quinn and Patricia have been a dumpster fire.

But Slay needs to keep his mouth shut until he is in the top 40 PFF CB rankings at least. He still talks like he is a shutdown corner. A shutdown corner would have had teams lining up to give the Lions at least a 2nd.

Nobody was afraid to throw at him last year and if you you look at the last 2 years he is definitely trending the wrong way. I don't think Philly fans will buy it's Patricia's fault when Cooper torches him.

The bigger problem for Detroit is they had no true replacement getting groomed. The roster is littered with backups at the DB position.

I question any rankings that don't have Slay in the top 40. Was he the best in the league? No. Was he top 10? Maybe, maybe not. But top 15-20? Hell yes he was.

I just hope they can trade back a couple of spots, get some picks and still get Okuda.

But watch them take him at 3 at claim he would have gone to NY at 4. The Giants then trade back 1 spot w Miami and get an extra 1st making BQ look like an idiot once again.

Pretty sure BQ has drafted two CB's in the 5th round.

Agnew in 2017 and Oruwariye in 2019

yeah but @broncosmitty refers to my now favorite defensive player as a munchkin so as long as there's no other munchkin CB drafted in the 5th round I'm guessing it'll be alright.
