I'm just going to state that Voynov, if he did indeed beat the crap out of this woman, should be tied to a chair naked with the seat bottom cut out (a la Casino Royale), peanut butter applied to his genitals and rabid pitbulls let loose in the room. Then the Kings can put him on LTIR. All problems solved.

Would it still be fair to just refer to it as a "lower body injury" then?

Just talked to Voynov lawyer. @losangeleslegal He said he interviewed woman in the Voynov case for more than an hr (More)

Interviewed her via interpreter. Renetzky:"Based on what she is telling me, there's no crime here." Reported earlier by Ken @THNKenCampbell

Renetzky: "There's certainly not enough to bring criminal charges." He would not tell me what the injury was but said it was an accident.

More Renetzky: "She was very clear he did not punch her, he did not hit her in that way...." More

Renetzky: "I don't think they (the police) understand what exactly had occurred..."

Voynov attorney, again, spoke to the woman through a Russian interpreter.

Update from his lawyer.
My guess (based on the video showing bandage on her skull) is that he threw something and hit her I the head. Not saying that is a good thing, but it is hard to prove intent to injure.

Bolded words are the only important ones. I wonder what could possibly have been said? It's like a ship has taken a hard turn to de port side.

From the 30 thoughts thread:

4. Depending on how this goes, we could see the first test of a new power given to Commissioner Gary Bettman in the 2013 CBA. The section “Discipline for Off-Ice Conduct” reads as follows: “Whenever the Commissioner determines that a Player has violated a League Rule applicable to Players (other than Rules subjecting the Player to potential on-ice discipline), or has been guilty of conduct (whether during or outside the playing season) that is detrimental to or against the welfare of the League or the game of hockey, he may discipline such Player in any or all of the following respects: a) by expelling or suspending such Player for a definite or indefinite period; b) by cancelling any SPC that such Player has with any Member Club.” In a worst-case scenario, Bettman could void Voynov’s contract, which has almost $22 million remaining. There is an appeal process.

If Voynov pleads or is found guilty, what are the odds Bettman takes this step? Anschutz (via AEG) isn't as bad as Jacobs or Illitch for meddling, but that's one powerful guy who might have something to say on the subject.

I don't think Bettman wants to do anything to hurt the golden goose that is the LA Kings at the moment.

That's kinda what I was getting at. Voynov deserves his day in court first, no question.

But if he pleads/is found guilty, one would think the Kings would be asking for some relief from his contract, even if only cap-wise (i.e., they still have to pay the cash). Would Bettman have the stones though?

I don't think the Kings would have any problem paying the cash, the cap is more important than the actual dollars if you're looking at it from a team standpoint

If he pleads or is found guilty of a felony, he will be deported and his contract will be voided.
If it is a lesser crime, he will be reinstated and have to attend classes.
If the DA waits more than a month they may look at it like LTIR but I would not bet money on that.

Per @reallisa story on Voynov hoping to have suspension lifted: From what I understand, he must be willing co-operate in the NHL's investigation. He has -- so far -- declined to do so, which is his right. But it won't be lifted until that happens.

not really a good sign when he's not co-operating with the league.

His lawyers says he is, but really he can't. If he talks to the NHL before they drop the case, the DA can subpoena those records and use it ad evidence against him.
However the quote is confusing. If it is his right not to talk with them, how can they punish him until he does? Without him the NHL has no case to investigate. If he says nothing they have nothing against him. Unless the DA presses charges.
The DA is reviewing the case on Monday. If they didn't have enough two weeks ago to press charges, I don't think they do now.
Once the case is dropped (if it is). The Lawyer will ask the NHL, why is his client suspended when there is no proof of wrong doing? Dozen of NHL players have been arrested, some convicted, of crimes but he is the only one with this punishment, and he has done nothing ( that anyone can prove) wrong.
