Six teams with recruiting chops to win first title of modern era
14 teams have won a national title since the bowl coalition began in 1992: Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and USC.
That leaves 116 teams in the FBS who have not won a national championship since 1992.
We at 247Sports often look at college football through a recruiting lens. And it is with that in mind that I have crafted this list.
Coincidentally, our friends at CBS Sports attacked the same topic from a program trajectory perspective and wound up with the same teams. That both perspectives on the topic reached the same conclusion suggests these teams are clearly on a "sooner than later" path to reach the Promised Land.
Georgia
Penn State
Notre Dame
Washington
Texas A&M
