signed a one year deal. IMO very stupid of the Bengals to let him get away. Spent years developing the guy, he produces in his first full year and you have absolutely nothing else at #2 WR. Now they pretty much have to burn a high pick (no pun intended) on a WR. Let's hope Floyd is there at 17

Simpson was more trouble than he was worth, he burned too many bridges taking so long to develop and in his only full season, he appeared and disappeared too often from game to game, no consistancy considering everyone was worried about covering the rookie WR opposite him.

The only way the Bengals screwed up here is either by:

A. not getting him more reps in games prior to last year or

B. Sticking with him as long as they did when they weren't even going to use him until the last year of his contract...either by choice or his own stupidity.

Bengals 2008 draft

Rivers -- Gone
Simpson -- Gone
Simms -- Good run stopper
Caldwell -- Gone
Collins -- Career back-up
Shriley -- A funny idea to begin with
Lynch -- Gone

The rest were late round picks that shouldn't be expected to make it anyway.

This draft was only 4 years ago!! Mike Brown is right -- The Bengal way is working!

subtraction by subtraction. Rome is a notoriously slow learner and still put up 750+ yards recieving with 4 TD's in his first full year as a starter in a new system with a rookie QB. We have nothing at #2 WR. We did not have the luxury of letting him go as the bengals ignored all the viable #2 WR's on the market. Really, all we have now is Armon Binns who was undrafted, released by a team with nobody at WR and that has never suited up for an NFL down. Simpson was clearly the best option and better than many are giving him credit for.

Bengals 2009 NFL draft

Smith -- Often injured - Entering final year of deal
Rey M. -- Terrible.
Johnson -- Situational pass rusher
Coffman -- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Luigis -- Out of the league?
Huber -- How does one forget how to punt?
Trent -- Good value for where he was picked.
B. Scott -- Good according to Bengals fans. According to stats and facts, not really.

Why on earth are we even getting excited for the draft?

well, the 2010 and 2011 drafts were very good...and I'm a total draft nerd so it's high drama for me.

Glad Simpson I gone. Also has a 3 game suspension coming. Dropped balls, inconsistent. Not worth resigning.

Probably not. Or not much. He wasnt a good WR. He had a couple of big games. Easily replaceable.

Yeah we will see when our #2 WR has about 25 catches this year and Green is doubled and bracketed all game every game. Simpson was good enough that it took some pressure off Green.

WE are getting a WR in the 1st round, bank on it.

Floyd, Wright, Hill....we will end up with one of them come Thursday. Not going to be an issue with Simpson gone. After seeing McNutt, I would almost prefer we target him in round 3, and grab areas of need in the 1st since McNutt looks like a underrated stud.

DeCastro and Gilmore would be ideal,. but you know how it is.

We are taking a WR in the 1st, bank on it. And honestly that is a waste IMO when we could have signed Simpson and not needed to draft 1 in the 1st.

Simpson blows. So glad he's gone.

I agree, get the pot head out of the club house. Get a more consistant receiving threat, and put some youth back on the field with who we get a fresh slate with, unlike Simpson.

Looks like Minnesota just went up in smoke.

you guys act like Simspon is horrible. Again, 750+ yards and 4TDs in his first full year at WR. Should've continued to get better. Had some of his best games when AJ was out so dont give me that 'he benefited by playing opposite of Green' argument.

Now we have to spend probably a first round pick on WR. Really shitty job of handling the WR situation by the Bengals. If they wanted to let Simpson go they should've signed one of the decent FA's that were on the market.

Thank you Servo. Finally some sense.
