Nothing at all is confusing about that. A lot of NFL fans would agree with that assessment. Saying the DLine or DTs/NGs are not important is flat out wrong though.

Its not as important as Cb or pass rusher. There is a reason why Cb and pass rusher are the two highest paid positions on defense. I rather spend the money there instead of guys like Suh, Darues(Buffalo guy), and Cox.

I'm wondering if the Skins feel like run defense is much less important than it used to be. Of course, the Skins are opening against a team that has traditionally featured a run dominant offense. So, if the Steelers run effectively but still show they are more interested in passing than running, that should tell us something about the importance of the run in today's brave new NFL world.

Or it could mean the Steelers think they can pass on the Skins just as easy or easier than run on them. And if the Skins can't generate a pass rush, why not pass with Ben if you can as he's, at least imo, a top tier (top 5) QB.

Yeah, I get it. You're not gonna say you were wrong, which you were, with your "Carolina showed that the DL isn't important." statement. You then go on to say. Denver ran on Carolina with an average OLine and the Panthers needed to bring the blitz to get pressure on Denver's QB.

I didn't see the game so I can't say if I agree with your implication that Carolina's DLine didn't play well against what you say is an average Denver OLine. The funny about your statement to me though is. It says the opposite of what you're claiming. If Carolina had a better DL or had a better performance from their present DLine. Than Denver doesn't run as well as you say they did with an average OLine and maybe the Panthers don't have to bring the blitz as well.

It also seems like Carolina's secondary played pretty well, especially if Denver was as effective running as you claim. D Thomas and Sanders had 9 catches on 14 targets for 97 yards, 7 first downs, one 20+ yard rec and 0 TDs between them. Add in Denver TE production, 1 catch 6 yd, and an INT by Carolina's secondary. Doesn't seem as if Norman was missed all that much. Though maybe these very pedestrian numbers were more a product of cautious Denver play calling, cautious Denver QBing or some of both. I dunno.

I never said that. you got that confused. I said Carolina thinks dline is more important than CB.

Carolina showed us last night that dline is not important. Denver ran on them with an average oline. Plus they still had to send the house to get pressure on Simein. Im so glad they lost. Denver almost gave them the game at the end.

that was geared to that they concentrated on their dline and still go run over. The reason they let Norman walk was b/c they wanted to sign back guys from their dline. Carolina values dline over CB.

Plus I was being funny to that they say they have this great dline and they couldn't stop the run and needed blitzes to pressure Simein.

1. Carolina didnt blitz yesterday any more than normal.

2. It was a simple question Dean.. .do you in particular really think our Defensive line is better now than it was at this time last year?? Thats a simple yes or no question. But you are still trying to spin it that it wont matter because we signed Norman.

Yes! Actually Hood and Reyes are better than hatcher. Yes NT is a setback but we are going to be fine. Like I said we can comit more bodies in the run game b/c we have the CBs to play man to man. IF Kerrigan and Smith can consistently get to the QB we should be fine on defense. Norman makes the defense better b/c he does not need safety help which allows that safety to be in run support hence making the whole defense better.

I disagree Carolina brought the house on a lot of occasions to try to confuse the QB.

I suspected you were crazy, thanks for confirming it. Hood is average at best, and Reyes was on the decline and as of now might not even be able to play Monday night. And if you have to put 8 in the box, which is what you are suggesting... then no way in hell is our defensive line, or the defense as a whole better.

And as you mentioned to me, I suggest you rewatch the game. Carolina showed blitz about half the night, which is what they do. But they did not bring a blitz any more than they normally do which is about 25-35% of the time.

Your question was is our dline better this year or last year. Its this year b/c hatcher was useless. An average Hood or Reyes are better than hatcher. Maybe not 8 in the box but they can put 7. That's the luxury of having good Cb's. You are already 0 for 2 this year Shark. You said Long would start didn't happen. You said Jones wouldn't play week 1, not going to happen. If Norman and the defense goes off Monday night I am going to be all over your ass. lol.

You need to check your facts. I said Long would make roster nothing more.

As for Norman and the defense, if they do "go off" as you suggest... as I have said before one game does not a season make. Norman has done nothing save sign a contract. Hood is average at best, and Reyes might not even play.

You are Vinny reincarnated. Big names mean more than anything to you.

Not even close big guy. Just b/c I like a high payed player doesn't make me Vinny. You,skinsdad,gk, and others were all about Long this year starting, someone brought up the stats from last year that he was a good OG. He didn't beat out LAvou and Lavou is an average at best OG. Long had all that time last year and this year to prove himself and he still couldn't win the starting job for Week 1. I don't want to hear the ankle injury b/c it was minor and if the organization valued his play he would of started.

Again dude, show me where I said Long would start?? IF anything I said Lavaou needed to show he was healthy or long WOULD start. And no sir you are a big name ho'. IF a guy was drafted in the first round (Ziggy Hood) or has the love of the talking heads ( Gabe Jackson, Leonard Williams, Morgan Moses) You jump on the band wagon faster than a crack head snatches the dope dealers backpack after a drive by.

No way. You were one of the crew that jumped on me b/c I didn't think Long was a good player.

Im not going back that far. Were you one of the people who said Hood wouldn't make the team? I know skinsdad was one wasn't sure about you.

I said Hood SHOULDNT make this team. The fact that he did just goes to show that we have almost no real talent on the defensive line. The fact that we are likely going to start Ziggy Hood should make most sane Redskins fans cringe. Hood as a backup, I figured he had a shot. But Hood as a starter equals Traci Lords in the early 80's level of just plain wrong.

I guess Hood has to start if Reyes is out. What about RJF? Did Hood beat him out?

Dude.. you are talking up three guys who would ONLY be backups on half the rosters in the League outside of Washington. And they wouldnt even make roster on the other half. And yet you are debating which one should actually start?? Really??
