Hey all, once again, I know I don't say much here, blah, blah, blah; also, I am not trying to be blasphemous against Tom. But my question is, if Tom's philosophy is to promote from within, is he helping or hurting? Seems to me the promoting from within system is fine and dandy as long as you only have a coach leaving once every 5-6 years or more; makes for more stability. However, in the coaching carousel we have had here the past 12 years, wouldn't it have been wise to try and spend the extra money on a Stoops or somebody with a little street cred to keep us up with the Joneses? Once again, don't get me wrong, there is only one TO (and not the prima donna wide out), but is his influence as AD sometimes not in the best interest of the Huskers?

Also, if Tom had told Bo, "Money is no object", would Bo still promote from within or go outside?

T.O. should go.... any fucking place he wants to go. It's not like he is a goddamn JoPa or something.

I may be a bit naive on this, but I honestly don't believe T.O. had much (if any) influence on Bo with this promotion. Pelini want's to do things his way with people he trusts..

I don't think T O buys any groceries for Bo at all, neither of them would allow that to happen. The doctor is better than that and Bo wouldn't be here if that were the case. The most of the Joneses aren't exactly what I would consider to be leaders in the community, Pelini and JP know that all too well. Whether or not Bo's moves are a hit remains to be seen, but I'd give him plenty of latitude on it.

I've been a Bo supporter since 03. This year how we struggled and ended up being somewhat of a 'letdown' I still had faith in Bo. With our recent coaching changes I am starting to doubt though. I don't think Bo wants to run the defense, I really don't. As previous people have stated it looks like he wants to be more of the CEO role...which doesn't fit him well. This move with papuchis going to DC is going to be looked at a year or two from now as a make or break in Bo's head coaching career. If Bo uses him as a puppet for his Defense, then we will be fine and look for similarities in 08 and 09's defenses. If he goes CEO on us, Bo will be gone in 2-3 years.

First off, this years record was not a let down. The way we lost the 3 games was.

Secondly, the amount of money Bo has to spend on a DC is Perlman's call, not T.O's.

Someone posted earlier and I forget who, had a very good point on the DC hire....why do we want someone that will only come in here for a year and the whole time worry about a HC position.

Good hire in J.P.

Tom's not going anywhere.....

Bo Schembechler was an icon at Mich for a long time.... Left on his own to get involved with the Detroit TIgers....

Joe Paterno was an icon at Penn St for a long time.... Left when his coach decided to :hdn:

Guys like this leave when they want... (Well most of them)

There are few things that make me want to shake my head in disgust more than when people say, "Osborne needs to tell Bo this", "the OC needs to ask Osborne that" and other crap like that. Bo is the fucking head coach!!!!!!!!!!! Osborne is the AD. Which means he over sees all the sports and Bo over sees the football team. If Osborne was going to constantly hover over Bo then that would show that he doesn't trust him to be the head guy. Why would Bo want to work in that environment? Who under Bo would respect him for that? Osborne never had that when he was a coach. Granted, most of the time his AD was Devaney and Devaney was too drunk to give any advise but still. Osborne was a GREAT coach and GREAT leader but he also knows that he can't hover. You morons (not necessarily the people that have responded in this thread) that continue to ask for Osborne to hover, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But as for the thread title question, yes he needs to go. ;) Paul Meyers is ready so just give it too him now rather than in a couple years.

Paul Meyers would be an excellent athletic director, and that seems to be where we will go next. However, Osborne has done more for this program than pretty much anyone else, and he is the type of person that would recognize the time that he started to hold the program back. He will leave in the next year or two of his own accord, and I am happy with this because he deserves to chose when he leave.

No........Tom Osborne should not go.

Let's discuss something other than football for a second.............how about the basketball team, which nobody knows about yet.

5 years from now, everyone is going to be praising Tom Osborne for everything he's done to bring Nebraska basketball out of the shitter and into the NCAA Tournament on a regular basis.

He is a smart man........he sees the whole picture, not just the football picture. Tom Osborne knows how to direct athletics. I hope he decides to be the Joe Pa of athletic directing (minus the scandalousness) and goes until he dies.

Ya know, I don't want Tom gone. I do not know the inner workings of the UN hierarchy, and if Perlman is the one who makes those decisions, then so be it. Was just supposed to be a simple question and discuss things. Guess I will just go back to being a lurker and stfu.

I still love you as a Husker fan if that helps. But your question assumes that both Bo and Tom are lying about Toms input. The way you framed this discussion looks like a thinly veiled troll.

Please don't let my acting all mad and such stop you from posting sir.

Well if it helps, I'm not smart enough to troll, let alone try it. All I was trying to say (in a nutshell) is that coaching stability at UN sucks. Maybe I am just spoiled from Tom's days, maybe expecting more because we have all seen more and frustrated why we can't get there. Sorry, will stfu now. :deadhorse::yo:
