Patriots have a lot of picks and the #31 pick might be a reach no matter who you pick?
Trading down could a good idea here but the trade up probably makes sense for NE.
(this being predicated on NE seeing a #31 they want and Denver not)

I would trade down that far for your 2nd 2nd and a 2017 1st.

Patriots are going to be in real good position for their needs at the end of round 2...

Sean Davis, Leonte Carroo, Devontae Booker

and I am going to HATE it.

Asking a bit much? I know you are jerking my chain but since we are talking hypothetically here,
Do you think that asking for a 1st in trade for the last pick in the 1st here would require 2 additional 2nds?
What if Denver really did want to trade back and NE really wanted to trade up?
What would be the price?

Question #1 do you really think Denver and Pats would ever be trade partners in the Elway Belichek era? You can put that thought to rest. :)

That is quite a long way to move up overall and I would want a future pick as well. Preferably a first. We already have a decent amount of picks this year, and we are gonna have a bunch of picks early next year. And being a team without an answer at QB, I would want to have early ammo for next year. I think Something like

Den 31
2017 4th

for

NE 61
2017 1st

This is all hypothetical though. I can't see a single player that would be worth that price to the Pats.

If a Denver trade down does happen, it will be for a team in the upper 3rd of the 2nd round and hopefully get a 2 for next year.

That would be an awful large move back for the broncos. I think it would take more than the pats would give up.

I agree with this. I don't see a good possibility of a NE/Denver trade.

New England cannot make a selection in round one of the draft per the punishment handed down in the aftermath of the ball deflation fiasco.

Really? Even if they traded back into the first round? I understood the punishment was that they lost their first round pick for 2016, not that they were barred from participating in round one.

The local sports talk radio boys were talking about this issue a few weeks ago and they said that not only did NE lose their own first round pick, but that they also cannot trade up into the first round to circumvent the punishment. I haven't heard anyone come out and say that this is incorrect.

The pats were able to pick Jared Mayo the year they lost their first due to spygate, so i can't believe that is true...
