Well value wise at least according to the NFL Draft Value chart goes like this...

Pick 31--Valued at 600 points.

The 2 2nd round picks for the Patriots are valued at

Pick 60--300
Pick 61--292

So value wise they are close. The added bonus of the 5th year option to me is worth another at least 100 points if not more. So that would be about an extra 4th round pick which NE does not have. They could trade their 3rd round pick but I can't see them giving up their top-3 picks just to move into the 1st.

So then we are talking future picks. It would at least take next year's 2nd round pick and even then with the number of picks the Broncos have next year not sure they would go for it.

The Patriots have already traded their souls - some would say they don't have anything left.

I agree with the sentiment that we would be trading too far back in a trade with the Pats. We're already at the end of round 1 as is. It doesn't seem like a trade with the Pats would be feasible.

Only way I would do it is with a 1st round pick next year attached to it. If the Broncos don't like this QB class then they could trade back, trade for Kaepernick (hearing they want a 5th round pick and a conditional pick next year), and then have the ammo to maybe go after the QB we want next year. Decent QB class next year so I could see the Broncos consider that.

Maybe we have been hanging out on this board together too long as we seem to be agreeing way too much lately.

That is quite a long way to move up overall and I would want a future pick as well. Preferably a first. We already have a decent amount of picks this year, and we are gonna have a bunch of picks early next year. And being a team without an answer at QB, I would want to have early ammo for next year. I think Something like

Den 31
2017 4th

for

NE 61
2017 1st

I could live with this @cdumler7

The local sports talk radio boys were talking about this issue a few weeks ago and they said that not only did NE lose their own first round pick, but that they also cannot trade up into the first round to circumvent the punishment. I haven't heard anyone come out and say that this is incorrect.
They cannot draft any higher than 29th in the 1st round this year. If they had somehow acquired an additional 1st rounder, the league would have stripped the higher of the 2 picks.

I'm not sure I would give them the 4th round pick. Usually draft wise a future pick is considered value wise a round later. So a 1st round pick becomes a 2nd round pick. So value wise our 1st is easily worth 2 2nd round picks. I would make them pay dearly to get back into the 1st. That 5th year option is a pretty nice selling point in my opinion for teams to overpay to get back into the 1st.

My hope actually is for the Broncos to trade back like they did for Wolfe. As much as the hype is that Hackenberg will be taken in the 1st I actually think he will fall to the 2nd. So we can trade back and get a bit more ammunition to move around the draft and get him in the early part of the 2nd.

It seems like the Patriots are a bit too shrewd business-wise to give up that much value in a trade.

OH I agree which is why I think this entire post stand about a .00001% chance of actually happening. The Patriots would hate probably more than any other team to help the Broncos out by giving them great value.

Patriots could have traded up into the 1st round but Goodell would take the highest pick.
If Pats traded for 15th pick they would lose the 15th and keep the 29th.
If Pats traded for the 31st, they would lose the 29th and keep the 30th.
Moot point now......
