(Ottawa)—The Ottawa Police Service and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to reports of shooting incidents this morning in the downtown area. Police can now confirm that incidents occurred at the National War Memorial and on Parliament Hill.

Contrary to earlier reports no incident occurred near the Rideau Centre.

One shooting victim succumbed to injuries. He was a member of the Canadian Forces. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones.

Next of kin notification is underway and as such, the victim’s identification will not be released.

One male suspect has also been confirmed deceased. There is no further update on injuries at this time.

This is an ongoing joint police operation and there is no one in custody at this time.

Ottawa residents are asked to stay away from the downtown area while the investigation continues. If you work in one of the downtown buildings, follow the instructions from the building management you are in.

A number of RCMP and Federal government buildings are also closed to the public; as is Ottawa City Hall and all Ottawa Police stations.

Regarding the lost of Canada's "innocence" :noidea: and I realize this is very minor, but I doubt you will see PM Harper at any NHL or CFL games in amongst the masses in the future.

An unprecedented attack shook Canada on Wednesday as at least one gunman attacked parliament and the country's war memorial in the capital, Ottawa.

...

Canada is no stranger to terrorism, having endured the kidnappings of government officials by radical domestic terrorists known as ...

Has their been any information whether this was a terrorist/ISIS motivated incident, or anti government? Or something else? I reckon there's a lot if speculation but anything confirmed?

Wouldn't be surprised if this is ISIS motivated.

CBC saying that military members are told to not wear uniform off-base, and on base don't make any stops before going home. In other words: don't wear it in public. Just because they're being targeted. Sickening.

Ok. some real talk

My father is a Canadian Navy in CFB Esquimalt (suberb of Victoria). I have litterly been scared shitless worrying about him.

I like to believe there is good in everyone.

THAT THERE IS GOOD IN THIS WORLD

if there is. nothing like today would ever happen

today was just pure evil.

Saw a phone vid inside PH where you could hear the gun volleys...One heavy blast (shotgun) followed by about 50+ small arms return fire (handguns). No doubt where the one shooter died.

Officials are not confirming if the shooter at the National War Memorial is the same person who was shot on Parliament Hill.

So I did not understand that press conference at all. What did we learn?

When I saw the map, I started wondering if it really was just one shooter.

Never pass an opportunity to let a loved one know you care. Sincerely. Even if there is zero threat, I'm sure your father would appreciate the gesture.
