not sure if true but ...
One of the soldiers at the War Memorial in Ottawa had to 'run away' as the weapon they're issued has no ammunition in it. It's 'symbolic.'
This fucking country.

In the comment section of a CNN post about the situation in Ottawa -->> "Canada has a war memorial? When did they go to war?"

Is now the time for an 'I told you so' political statement?
my friends husband is working in the middle of that area. she said he contacted her but didnt hear shots its crazy.
This fucking country.
Any posters in that area? Kenny?
If so, be safe..
Probably more in reaction to the Quebec Incident than any specific knowledge of this or some other event. Canada would surely have taken steps to protect exposed soldiers guarding a memorial if they had specific info.
Holy shit. That first shot sounded like a high powered rifle. Like a sniper rifle.
The rest sounds small arms and a lot of it return fire.
To some people, it always is agenda time. And to some people hunting soldiers and police is "justified". Those people are... use your own adjective.
I have a friend who works across the canal and up the street from Rideau Centre. Haven't heard from him yet. Fingers Crossed.
Pretty typical. The guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Beefeaters at Buckingham palace do not have active weapons, either.

so he was steps away from Caucus. That was the parliament shooters goal. good thing a security agent who normally doesn't carry his gun decided to carry his gun this day.
In regard to the first round sounding high powered: reports I've seen said the shooter in Parliament had a gun with a long barrel (so, sniper).
I'm in Ottawa but not downtown. My building is in lockdown anyway. My wife and I have a three month old daughter that we've been toting around the city to all the landmarks... always felt very safe in any Canadian city but this might shake that a bit. Very upsetting and sad for the soldier who was shot. Hope they are okay.
Any news from the Rideau center? I have friends who work there.
