Had the Nashville Predators not matched the Group II offer sheet tendered by Philly, the franchise would have entered the realm of irrelevancy. They have lost Ryan Suter already (to a Conference foe, no less), and had Nashville also lost Weber—their captain and chief free agent drawing card—general manager David Poile might as well have changed the team colors to red, white and blue, and re-named his club “the Blue Jackets.”

*exhales* Thanks Nashville! I knew that whole Shero-Poile relationship thing would work.

Thank the fuck god. But for those saying Shea must be pissed because he's stuck in Nashville, I'm assuming he's not a moron and realized he was limiting his options to two teams. He might have been leaning towards Philly more, but he obviously didn't mind committing to Nashville either.

Those letters to season ticket holders got to me a bit (the part in the one about Nashville not being a franchise to be raided). I don't blame Holmgren at all; the offer sheet is a viable option and a smart move on his part, but I don't like the whole feel around it (because of the small market team thing). Glad Nashville was able to match, not just for my team's sake. People act like Nashville is a joke or something. They have a good fanbase, and they have done well for themselves for a small market team. Not many people picked the eight seed to win this year, so I'm not sure why everyone is acting like Nashville doesn't stand a chance based on losing Suter. If they make the dance, they got a decent shot. And with Rinne and Weber, they make it.

I'm glad he's staying out West. I'm real glad all of this craziness is taking place in the Atlantic and the Northeast has remained the same for the most part.
