Its a good lesson for you Joey, when the focus is team and not just one who fits the current definition of franchise.

Which chapter in the lesson do we get to the part where the team has probowl and hall of fame type caliber players all over the place?

If I'm being honest, I don't know what else I could learn about the team. I've read McMichael's and Payton's books. I've watched basically every thing done on that team.

Regardless, I'll definitely be tuning in.

Yes... I was 7 years old. Loved that team and it's characters. One of the reasons I became a Bears fan.... But

IT's BEEN 30 FREAKING YEARS!!!! Let it go already!! It's time to move on.

That was awesome.

I was 25 in '85. The back-to-back playoff shutouts vs the Giants and Rams will never be duplicated. Bears own that.

I also remember a clip from back then that wasn't part of the documentary... John Madden was picking his all-Madden team... He said that kickers aren't part of the all-Madden team, but if they were, he'd take Kevin Butler. And as Madden is saying this, they're showing a clip of Kevin Butler getting in on a special teams' tackle, leaning into the tackle and sticking his facemask into the facemask of the ball-carrier. Butler cetainly impressed John Madden.

I don't get why...

They won a title and were arguably the greatest team ever assembled... something to look back on fondly. No one's sitting here stuck in 1985. You view posts daily from everyone here about the team's current issues. Championship teams have their place to be remembered, in all sports.

I'm not denying anyone the occasional look back at a historic team or even fondly reminiscing about the times with friends watching that team. I also understand and get that it's the 30th anniversary... BUT you can't tell me that some Bears fans aren't STUCK in 1985. If you listen to the callers on the Score or even some throw away comments on here- (I think a comparison to Jim McMahon was discussed just awhile back) I think it's overkill and an obsession that won't ever change until they win another... and if they are the greatest team ever.... (<very likely) then why do we always insists on comparing every Bears team to them? Isn't that a little far reaching? And an impossible thing to ask any team?

Simply remembering and comparing the best teams you have ever had does not mean anyone is stuck living in the past. Great bands, great sports teams, etc... Their best accomplishments will be honored. There is a place for it and the discussion of it.

People love comparing shit, and debating over what is the greatest (insert here) ever. What's the greatest TV drama of all-time? Who is the greatest band of all-time? Who is the greatest guitar player of all-time?

All debates I've had. That doesn't mean I sit around obsessing over Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendrix 24 hours a day, because I argued one of them may have been the greatest guitarist to ever live. It doesn't mean I watch my favorite movie on a continuous loop every evening when I get out of work. lol

When people enjoy shit, they're going to reflect on it. There's nothing wrong with it. There's a time for it.

just scrolling through some historical statistics, and when I came to 1985 just now I noticed that the 1985 Bears offense was #2 in the league that year in points scored, tied for fourth-best in turnovers committed, 5th best in yards per play. For comparison, the best offense in the modern era (2013) was #2, #20, and #4.

I realize that the numbers in 2013 are bigger, but that's because it is a totally different league. On a league-wide comparison, I'd argue the stats suggest the 1985 offense was the Bears' best ever. Maybe unnecessary since we had that defense, but still the best in franchise history.

eh, I'm wrong. Just found a different source that ranks the entire franchise history including pre-Super Bowl years. Jesus I never realized how utterly dominant the Bear offenses were in the 1920s-1940s. Pretty much league best every single year.

As far as the Super Bowl era, in terms of league ranks where we came in top 5....

By Points
1965 (2nd)
1985 (2)
2006 (2)
2013 (2)

By Yards (the more relevant stat of Yards Per Play is not available on this site and I am not going to take the time to calculate the league ranks out for this, this is why 1983-1986 and 2013 are not in top 5)
1977! (3)
1965 (3)

By Giveaway/Takeaway (By Turnovers Committed also not available from this site unfortunately)...
1976 (1)
1985 (1)
2012 (2)
1965 (2)
1967 (3)
1990 (3)
1979 (4)
2001 (4)
2006 (4)

anyway if you look at these in total, 1965 was better than 1985

They beat the Pat's like a red headed stepchild.

The Patriots ruined the Superbowl by upsetting Miami.
