At least the myth of Serena not always being gracious in defeat. Well, check this.
"The moment Williams, who had beaten older sister Venus in the 2002 and 2003 finals, mishit a forehand return into the net to hand the Siberia-born Sharapova a 6-1 6-4 victory, the new champion sank disbelievingly to her knees, burying her face in her hands. As she rose to her feet, Williams, wonderfully gracious in defeat, came around the net to embrace her." Culled from Sensational Sharapova is a Russian revelation

Now there you go. Will you and others stop the nonsense?
Was the Queen watching that one!!

She broke a rule and got caught.
She broke another rule and got caught.
She bitched, moaned called the jump names.
She broke another rule and got punished.
The hitch ducked up.

serena is 37, with child, and overweight. serena going through the draw like she did is kind of an embarrassment to womens tennis.

Martina Navratilova won a Wimbledon match 6-0, 6-1 as a 47 year old.

For all her greatness as a winner of record grand slams ( GOAT status ) and dominance over physically and genetically less gifted and less stronger women who do not have a proper executable game plan when playing her, she will still go down as one of the nastiest champion!!

She in reality only deserved 1 code of conduct violation. The 3rd one doesn't happen if the umpire ignores coaching like they do in all other tennis matches which means the first one doesn't happen either.

Two, not one. The third one was for calling the umpire a thief and a liar! Pot calling the kettle out!

Her team broke a rule and got caught. Fair game.

The tuck rule was rarely called, but it was still the correct call.

Serena embarrassed herself. What a jerk she is.

Her coach admitted to coaching her which is against the rules. She was caught. However, it had no affect on the match.

Knowing she already had 1 infraction, she destroyed her racquet, which is against the rules. Still had no affect on the match.

She then verbally abused the ump by calling him a sexist and a thief, which is against the rules.

She believes the rules do not apply to her.

Serena is a nazi.

both sides were wrong

the chair ump should not have chosen that time to make an example of someone. Coaches are constantly making hand signals and trying to coach and that kind of shit is never called. If the US Open wanted to crack down on it, the women's final was a terrible time to start doing it, especially in the very crucial point in the match. That's shitty.

Except that this chair umpire would actually display massive favouritism if he did not penalize for the hand signals. Favouritism that Serena Williams actually has gotten many times over.

Also, this umpire is widely known for enforcing the rules without any concern for the status or gender of the player, for years. Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, Murray, all have been punished for code violations by this referee at the biggest stages on multiple occasions (Grand Slams and Olympics) for similar or less serious language.

Also Williams was the one escalating the situation, on multiple occasions. The ref did everything to let this go - but after Williams started threatening him, and going after his integrity, he was no left to give her another violation. And the third strike is will cost a player the game (as the rules state).

BTW, also various men (lesser status men) have been tossed from the tournament for their behaviour either in game or after the game (IIRC including last year's US Open).

Williams was behaving like a spoiled brat that was frustrated over not winning a final she that she was supposed to win with one hand tied behind her back in the eyes of most - especially for a home crowd. And just as with Clijsters, she lost it because her opponent refused to cooperate.

The sad part is that people who have played the game and follow believe there is double standards while others who do not even follow tennis join in because of whatever reason. Hell, I saw my own favorite player and the greatest tennis player that ever played Roger Federer, used profanities against an umpire. It wasn't treated as anything as chair abuse. And he is not alone. A lot of male tennis players have used worst words to officiating and I can list them here but not treated equally. Certainly no politics involved. Unbelievable.

Except Ramos was the one referee to use this argument against (and is well recorded for enforcing the rules regardless of occasion, gender or status (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray).

In fact, Williams' argument is in many ways BS. Since quite regularly men have been tossed from the tournament for their on-court behaviour.

The one occasion where she had a justified argument was the violation imposed against Cornet (for changing her shirt), which everybody later on admitted was wrong.
