Man they are full aboard the Marvin Jones hype machine. That blows, his stock could rocket up. He was an NFL WR at Cal no doubt. His biggest problem was he had complete crap at QB.

NFL Network coverage - North Squad

Opened up the coverage with RBs vs. DEs/LBs in pass protection with 3 yards separation between each player.

Chris Polk vs. Lavonte David - Nice power from Davis. Puts Polk flat on his back with ease. Charles Davis mentioned this is the 2nd time in a row that Polk has struggled.

Horn blows and that drill is done. Bummer.

----

Mayock on Kellen Moore: The more tape you watch of him, the more you appreciate how smart this kid is. Again, average arm, but his anticipation skills are phenomenal.

The crew points out again today that even when Russell Wilson isn't the QB in on the action during installation that he is mimicing the QB off on his own behind the action.

Mayock on Kirk Cousins: Watched 3 of his game tapes before the Senior Bowl and I thought his mechanics were good. They get under center at Michigan State. He's in the gun some. My only question off the tape was movement to his left. I thought he struggled a little bit squaring his hips and shoulders and threw off his back foot more than he should. That's a minor thing but something I'm anxious to see during this week whether or not he's been able to work on that.

Mayock on Marvin McNutt: Had an exceptional senior year. 82 receptions, 1,350 yards 12 TDs. On tape there were a couple more drops than you'd like to see but he's a hands catcher. He catches it away from his body but every once in a while you get one of those concentration lapses.

Among those in attendance: Falcons DC Mike Nolan, Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie, Lions HC Jim Schwartz, Cowboys HC Jason Garrett, Cowboys OC Bill Callahan and Cowboys DC Rob Ryan.

--------------

9-on-7 observations - Full pads

--------------

WR vs. CB/S One-on-ones - Full pads

Marvin Jones vs. Alfonso Dennard (press coverage) - Dennard throws a one arm jab at the line, Marvin releases and then separates just a bit down the field to make a deep catch. Dennard had trouble running with him once he got up near full gear.

T.J. Graham vs. Jamell Fleming (press) - Fleming jabs too early and it's a do-over. No jab by Fleming and Graham releases cleanly. Graham runs a 10-yard comeback and makes the catch.

Note: Heath Evans watched Fleming in drills early this morning and said he was outstanding flipping the hips and was physical.

Gerell Robinson vs. George Iloka (off man - 9 yards) - Iloka flips hips outside and Robinson separates down field with a little push and turns inside for a wide open catch. Iloka beat bad.

Marvin Jones vs. Leonard Johnson (off man - 8 yards) - 5-yard comeback route. Makes the catch easy. Johnson too high in his backpedal.

Marvin McNutt vs. Alfonzo Dennard (off man - 10-yards) - 5-yard inside slant. McNutt makes the catch. McNutt real smooth. Nice recovery inside for Dennard after he made the catch.

T.J. Graham vs. Asa Jackson (off man - 9 yards) - 7-yard inside slant. WAY too much cushion given up by Jackson after his transition. Graham is a long strider.

Gerell Robinson vs. George Iloka (press) - No jam by Iloka at the line and Robinson gets off cleanly. 8-yard comeback that was caught. Iloka had tight coverage but allowed Robinson a clean release. Not awful, not great for Iloka.

Brian Quick vs. Donnie Fletcher (press) - Little jam at the line. Quick runs 15-yard comeback and falls to the ground as he was coming back to the ball. Real tight coverage by Fletcher. Much better than anything I saw out of him yesterday in one-on-ones but that's to be expected when he's in press.

DeVier Posey vs. Leonard Johnson (press) - No press and a clean release for Posey. 10-yard comeback caught. Johnson with tight coverage.

Marvin Jones vs. Jamell Fleming (off man - 9 yards) - Go route. Jones able to separate just slightly down the field but he couldn't locate the ball that was underthrown just slightly. If it's thrown over the top it's a catch.

Marvin McNutt vs. Asa Jackson (press) - Decent jam at the line. 10-yard comeback caught but Jackson was right there with him.

T.J. Graham vs. Alfonso Dennard (press) - Nice press at the line to throw Graham outside. Ball thrown inside and Dennard had a chance at it but it was thrown too low.

Gerell Robinson vs. Donnie Fletcher (off man - 10 yards) - 15-yard out route. Decent coverage by Fletcher and Robinson can't make the catch at the sideline.

Brian Quick vs. D'Anton Lynn (off man - 8 yards) - 5-yard out route. Quick real smooth and makes the catch at the sideline. Lynn able to knock the ball out but he was already out of bounds.

One-on-ones done for now.

One-on-ones (OL vs. DL)

Tony Bergstrom at RG vs. Billy Winn - Winn tries a hand punch and Bergstrom anchors and mirrors Winn the whole way. 2nd rep:

Joe Looney at C vs. Alameda Ta'amu - Ta'amu with a powerful bull rush that gets Looney going backwards but he kept him on his block.

Kevin Zeitler at LG vs. Kendall Reyes - Reyes with a hand punch off the snap and gets separation from Zeitler and beats him with speed into the pocket.

Senio Kelemete at LT vs. Vinny Curry - Curry goes wide and low and Kelemete just knocks him into the ground and stays on top of him. Nice quickness off the ball from Curry though.

Mike Adams at RT vs. Jack Crawford - Adams pushes him wide after Crawford had room to move around.

Johnnie Troutman at RG vs.. Derek Wolfe - Wolfe tries working him inside but Troutman stays with it and keeps him contained.

Mike Brewster at C vs. Mike Martin - Strong hand punch to the outside from Martin but Brewster stays locked on and then buries him into the ground. Great job by Brewster and more motor from Martin as well.

Joe Looney at LG vs. Alameda Ta'amu - Good quickness by Ta'amu for such a big guy. Got deep into the pocket. Not much fight from Looney there to get on him quick.

Senio Kelemete at RT vs. Derek Wolfe - Wolfe with speed outside, disengages, but can't stay composed and falls to the turf where Kelemete keeps him there.

Kevin Zeitler at RG vs. Kendall Reyes - Reyes tries to chop the hands to get free, Zeitler stays with it, then Reyes tries a spin which got Zeitler on his heels a little bit but he recovers just slightly and knocks Reyes to the ground.

Mike Brewster at C vs. Alameda Ta'amu - Brewster hesitates, Ta'amu throws a punch to the helmet, and Brewster does a wonderful job of getting his hands inside again and neutralizes Ta'amu. Great job Brewster.

Tony Bergstrom at LT vs. Billy Winn - Winn tries going wide, Bergstrom gets one hand inside and somehow Winn falls straight to the ground. Embarassing. TB only got one hand on him and he just fell.

Kelechi Osemele at LT vs. Vinny Curry - Curry goes wide and then spins back inside, Osemele stays with it, locking on, then Curry spins back the other way again but Osemele able to hang with him. Osemele's LONG arms helped him there. Wow.

Mitchell Schwartz at RT vs. Jack Crawford (9-technique) - Crawford tries going wide, spins, Schwartz dips his head too low and overextends, Crawford then spins back inside to get some pressure as he was going to the ground. Schwartz able to knock him to the ground once he got into the pocket.

Among those in attendance still: Mike Zimmer, Norv Turner, Ron Turner, Mean Joe Greene, Mike Tomlin, John Elway.

Marvin Jones indeed is a very skillful receiver. I thought he was going to make a name for himself by taking over the national scene. His teammate Keenan Allen has outshined him though. He's a guy that should crack the 1st round in 2012.

Team installation observations

George Iloka undercut a route to pick off a Kirk Cousins pass. Pass intended for Emil Igwenagu.

Poor arm strength, as expected, from Kellen Moore when throwing outside the numbers.

Cam Johnson with good pressure on a run play against Senio Kelemete (LT). Would've blown the play up.

Alameda Ta'amu beat Kelechi Osemele inside on a run play. Ta'amu has flashed some good things when the camera has been on him.

All the centers are having trouble snapping to the QBs prompting the coaches to take them off to the side to work on the snap exchange.

---------

Bucky Brooks on small school guys: Two guys stand out to me. Brian Quick. Excellent size. Outstanding measurables. Really impressed the way he's moved around and made plays. I talked to a couple of guys last night about who was the most impressive athlete on the field and a couple named Brian Quick so that's impressive to me. Secondly, Asa Jackson, who has been a standout. Doesn't have the size that some teams will like at CB but his athleticism and ability to play on the ball, his ability to make plays, he's a guy that is a perfect fit in a Tampa 2-type system.

-----------

Mayock on Dennard comparisons to Amukamara: I think Amukamara was a little bit more highly heralded coming out last year. I think people pretty much knew he was going to be a first round pick. I knew the Giants were ecstatic when he fell to them. As far as Dennard, he's a similar body type. Thickly built through lower body. Comfortable in press coverage. Will tackle like most Nebraska corners. What I need to see this week is what I questioned last year about Amukamara and that's just ball skills. When the ball is in the air, can you find it?

What impressed Charles Davis about Dennard? Watching him in special teams period. First guy down the field in most of his assignments when he was covering kicks. That impressed me. Another Nebraska kid did that was Lavonte David. This is how you make a team.

Who else impressed Davis? Alameda Ta'amu. They had a hard time blocking him in 9-on-7 and team periods.

----

Who are they looking forward to from the South team?

Mayock: At the defensive line. There are 4 or 5 first round picks and the guy that I'm most intrigued by is kind of a tweener in Melvin Ingram. People want to see how explosive he is.

Davis: I heard Ingram had a great day. I heard Quinton Coples was almost unblockable. Last but not least, Brandon Weeden. I heard he threw the ball better than anybody.

Done.

He would have if he didn't have one of the worst QBs playing I have ever subjected myself to watch. Oh man, early this season I was chuckling at that poor bastard. And Keenan is a first rounder for sure but you gotta remember his brother was the QB. ;)

NFL Draft Buzz

Plenty of fast starts on Day 1

Monday of Senior Bowl week features a lot of players getting used to new schemes and teammates, and a lot of coaching and teaching while players are in shorts and helmets.

It's not an ideal setting for evaluating NFL prospects, but a handful of players clearly got off to fast starts on Day 1, setting the tone for the week as they try to separate from the pack and cement their draft status.

Quinton Coples clearly knows how to get to the quarterback.

D-linemen stand out
The South team defensive line was clearly the most active, dominant unit on Day 1. North Carolina DE Quinton Coples enters the week as the highest-rated prospect in Mobile, and he lived up to the hype in his first practice. Coples owned the day from start to finish, and you can get a complete breakdown of his performance in our Stock Report to the right.

Alabama DE/OLB Courtney Upshaw showed power as both a run defender and pass-rusher. Upshaw is not an elite speedster, but he used leverage well and consistently won with quickness and power during one-on-one pass-rush drills.

The only mild concern with Upshaw is his instincts and how quickly he diagnoses plays in space. He was recognizing plays on a couple of occasions, and at one point it took him a few seconds to see a misdirection play. That's something we'll keep an eye on as the practice week progresses.

South Carolina DE Melvin Ingram did diagnose plays quickly, and he also used power and quickness to win the majority of his matchups during one-on-one drills and the team period.

Trio of wideouts shine
Arkansas WR Joe Adams showcased his speed and showed good quickness off the line and in and out of breaks. Adams also displayed impressive hands, catching everything that was thrown his way.

North Carolina WR Dwight Jones turned heads during the weigh-in -- checking in at a solid 6-foot-3 and 226 pounds -- and he followed that up by using his size effectively as a route-runner.

Jones does not have great suddenness, but his size gives him a built-in ability to separate, and he used his frame well within his routes. He also caught the ball well.

Finally, Appalachian State WR Brian Quick (6-3½, 222) needs some polish as a route-runner, but he has quick feet and fluid hips for a big receiver. Quick will round off cuts or take an extra step at times, but he was solid catching the ball, especially over his head on vertical routes.

He was caught off-guard by how quickly Boise State QB Kellen Moore got the ball out on a quick out route, but later in practice Quick made a nice play on a sideline 9-route in the end zone, turning to find the ball and bringing it down inbounds.

And while Quick isn't a blazer, he did show in a one-on-one matchup with Cal-Poly CB Asa Jackson the ability to use his long strides to eat up a cushion in a hurry. Quick is looking to show he can handle a higher level of competition, and he got off to a good start in Day 1.

Late scratches
We found out on Day 1 that Baylor WR Kendall Wright (ankle) and Penn State DT Devon Still (toe) have been scratched and will not participate.

CB Jenkins begins easing concerns

Todd McShay
Scouts Inc.

We came into the week wondering whether North Alabama CB Janoris Jenkins had lost anything after being dismissed from the team at Florida and taking a step down in terms of competition, but Jenkins appeared as sharp as ever on Day 1.

Janoris Jenkins is flashing the same form he showed at Florida.

He doesn't have elite speed but has always been fast enough, and it certainly appears Jenkins has not lost a step. He was a bit too physical past the NFL's 5-yard bump zone at times, but I liked his aggressiveness and confidence.

Jenkins was the one guy who didn't back down against the speed of Adams, challenging him and staying with him rather than bailing out and allowing a cushion to protect himself over the top.

And let's not forget that Jenkins basically shut down two of the best wide receivers in college football in 2010. He limited Georgia's A.J. Green and South Carolina's Alshon Jeffery to 95 combined yards that season, and one of the catches was a 20-yard touchdown by Green against a zone coverage. The tools are there, and Jenkins has shown the ability to go man to man against talented receivers who also have a size advantage on him.

The other part of the week for Jenkins -- perhaps the more important part -- is how he handles himself during interviews with teams. He has to get them comfortable with his maturity and decision-making after drug-related incidents led to his dismissal at Florida.

Now that he's answering questions about his overall skill set, that interview process could very well determine whether Jenkins has a chance to remain in the late-first-round mix or sees his stock plummet as far as the end of Day 2.

Matt Bitonti:

Boise State safety George Iloka nice pick, making money this week

Uconn De Kendall Reyes doing a nice job of disruption. Under rated

didn't expect Utah OL Tony Bergstrom to be so polished. Excellent technique, had a good day. #seniorbowl

--------------------------------

Matt Bowen:

Impressed with Nebraska OLB Lavonte David during one-on-one pass rush. Physical player at point of attack.

---------------------------------

Wes Bunting:

PennState DE Jack Crawford impressed again today, playing lower and with more violent hands, tough block #seniorbowl

MichiganState QB Kirk Cousins with nice bucket throw during team session, spins it clean with nice touch #seniorbowl

Haven't been able to get real excited about #Washington RB Chris Polk, struggled in pass pro, no real burst pressing LOS #seniorbowl

BoiseState RB Doug Martin has a burst, runs with good forward lean, and can change directions, instantly and explode #seniorbowl

Oklahoma CB Jamell Fleming has been the best corner on the North ...balanced, can turn and run, tough to separate from

---------------------------------

Mark Dulgerian:

CalPoly CB Asa Jackson has good top end spd but interested to see 2nd gear & ball skills downfield. Smart kid who understands the game

---------------------------------

Joe Fortenbaugh:

7 on 7: Kellen Moore goes 4/6 with a drop. Repeatedly took big shots. No check downs. #SeniorBowl

7 on 7: Russell Wilson goes 6 for 6. More conservative, took what defense gave him, hit some nice dig routes. #SeniorBowl

7 on 7: Kirk Cousins goes 3 for 3, all check downs or dump offs. No attempts over 7 yards. #SeniorBowl

North practice done.Players who stood out: Utah St LB Bobby Wagner, Iowa WR Marvin McNutt and nice INT during team from Boise's George Iloka

---------------------------------

Eric Galko:

Alfonzo Dennard beat deep. If he can't get great press, slow a WRs route down, he's always going to be in trouble. 3rd round guy, system fit

Mike Adams doesn't look great in drills so far, same issues from film. Susceptible to out-in rushes, lacks great power, explosion, aggression

George Iloka of Boise State closing well on the TE, coming up with the Interception. Could be beginning of a great week, unbelievable length

Bengals scout talking with Doug Martin away from main scout-interview herd. Just throwing that out there for you to ponder

Was impressed with #MichiganSt QB Kirk Cousins today. Only QB to get the ball out on time and with velocity. He and Weeden so far 1-2 at QB

---------------------------------

Shane Hallam:

appstate wr Brian Quick continues to look ppor. 3 drops in less than an hour of practice, slipping on field, body catching everything

Iowa WR Marvin McNutt having a great day. Cacthing everything and getting chippy with CB Leonard Johnson #Seniorbowl

Jaguars scout immediately talked to Brian Quick after practice, who would have thought?

Jets talking to RBs Doug Martin and Isaiah Pead after practice. #seniorbowl

saints chatting up some DBs after practice in Alfonzo Dennard and Trenton Robinson. #seniorbowl

Ravens chatting with some LBs after practice. James Michael Johnson and Bobby Wagner #seniorbowl

Lions actually talked with some WRs in Brian Quick and Marvin Jones after practice. #seniorbowl

Bengals talked with RB Chris Polk and QB Russell Wilson after practice

---------------------------------

Ryan Lownes:

BoiseState RB Doug Martin a hot topic down in Mobile, but how high can he go? Could teams covet him as/more highly than Mark Ingram?

My guess on Doug Martin... Late 1st is a possibility. Early-Mid 2nd more likely. Probably would not get past the #Bengals in the Second

With Chris Polk struggling to separate himself in Mobile, fans of RB-needy teams ought to do their homework on #Temple's Bernard Pierce.

Brandon Weeden is without a doubt the best QB in Mobile. IMO: The 2nd most ready to step into NFL action right away after Andrew Luck.

@DraftDaddy Something about Foles mentally rubs me the wrong way. Hard to eval what's inside a player though. He certainly has the tools
.

---------------------------------

Josh Norris:

Cam Johnson just made mike Adams look silly in one in one drills, quick step outside step to inside rush. Adams didn't get a hand on him

I may be eating my words with Mike Martin, still a better fit at three tech but dominating pass rush drills

Three consecutive wins got mike Martin against Brewster

Adams handles Johnson next time after stuffing initial momentum. Johnson obviously lacks a counter move.

George iloka is a man, can run and is huge. Great battle between he and Antonio Allen this week
.

---------------------------------

Michael Schottey:

Dennard (CB Nebraska) is playin a lot of Nickel back today, I think that's where he'll be in the pros as well

---------------------------------

Evan Silva:

Mayock on #Marshall DE Vinny Curry: "Lot of 2nd-rd grades. Stiffness to him, but (quality) effort, motor, length, ability to rush the QB."

Mayock on #IowaState G/T Kelechi Osemele: "His arms are like vines. Best in phone booth, but he's so long that he might be a right tackle."

Mayock has mentioned repeatedly that #Wisconsin QB Russell Wilson reminds of Doug Flutie. "Shines brightest in the biggest games."

1st positive note so far on #AppState WR Brian Quick: "A couple (NFL) guys" told Bucky Brooks that BQ is the Senior Bowl's top pure athlete
.

---------------------------------

Chris Steuber:

#ArizonaSt WR Gerell Robinson has nice size, but he better learn how to catch & quick. In 2 days, he's already dropped 3 catchable balls.

UConn DT Kendall Reyes is rated 100th on my board; he's been impressive & will rise. Great frame, high motor, strong hands; penetrator
.

---------------------------------

Michael Tanier:

Igwenagu from UMass lining up at both tight end and fb in offensive drills.

Ewing also playing fullback. It s the Vikings offense, after all.

Correction from earlier. TJ Graham muffed a punt. He has looked good since, albeit against air.

Iloka interception! We are in 11 on 11 now

Best pass of all 11 was a perfect deep pass by Cousins along the left sideline. Dropped by McNutt.

Doug Martin is returning kickoffs
.

-----------------------------

Mike Wilkening:

Ohio State OL Mike Brewster faring well in 1-on1s.

Haven't seen all of his throws but Kellen Moore looks better today. Several nice passes
.

-----------------------------

Scott Wright:

NCState LB Audie Cole looking good at the #SeniorBowl. Rangy and athletic with good speed and quick feet. Bobby Wagner impressive as well.

------------------------------

Shawn Zobel:

Appalachian State WR Brian Quick has dropped another two passes today. Not an explosive player. Has not helped himself

Michigan DT Mike Martin has helped himself more than any player out here the last two days. Beat Mike Brewster twice in one-on-one's today

Matt Bowen:

Iowa WR Marvin McNutt had solid one-on-one period today at Senior Bowl. Produced vs. press coverage, can run the 3-step game.

---------------------------------------

Wes Bunting:

Iowa WR Marvin McNutt isn't going to ever separate much, but can beat press, adjust to football, looks like "X" NFL receiver #SeniorBowl

IowaState CB Leonard Johnson doesn't look natural in off man, tough to give high grade to smaller CB who needs to win in press #SeniorBowl

NotreDame FS Harrison Smith has pretty good feel, finds ball and will tackle and be physical, tighter and slower to re-direct #SeniorBowl

#Cal OT Mitchell Schwartz has a tough time in pass pro keeping his pad level down, can be overwhelmed and/or laterally slipped #SeniorBowl

UtahState ILB Bobby Wagner showcased the ability to create both inside and out as a blitzer, more blitzer than pass rusher tho

---------------------------------------

Adam Caplan:

Cousins and Weeden have easily been the most impressive QBs so far in Mobile. Russell Wilson has also been impressive.

----------------------------------------

Eric Galko:

Marvin McNutt, Brian Quick shoot hands up for ball as well as any in draft, extends very well. McNutt consistent today, but Quick 4 drops

----------------------------------------

Shane Hallam:

Redskins met with Kelechi Osemele and Alfonzo Dennard after practice. #seniorbowl

49ers chatted with Bobby Wagner and Lavonte David today

Chiefs chatted with Kendall Reyes and Harrison Smith

Had a rough day today, dropped some balls, poor routes RT @MidwayIllustrat: @ShanePHallam Early impressions of Gerell Robinson?

North guys not standing out RT @Dan__Steele: @ShanePHallam - Not a very deep TE group this year, which TE(s) have looked the best this week?

I'm sure you've heard, but #NCState WR TJ Graham is legit. Deep threat with starting potential. Mike Wallace esque.

----------------------------------------

Ryan Lownes:

@DraftDaddy Weeden, on the other hand, is one I compare to Kurt Warner. Confident, competitive, poised; a leader who can make all the throws

NCState WR T.J. Graham is going to fly up boards and start appearing in the third round of mock drafts immediately. Why? Speed kills.

Random North practice observations: Zeitler boosted his value by taking some snaps at Center. Doug Martin looks quick, showed PR ability 2.

@WesBunting Makes me think Wagner would be a great fit inside in the #Steelers 3-4 scheme. They could use a young, blitzing ILB in the 2nd
.

-----------------------------------

Josh Norris:

Interesting wrinkle in the center class, Zeitler took a few snaps at center, occasionally did the same during practices at Wisconsin.

------------------------------------

Chris Steuber:

Watched #SeniorBowl practice again; impressed w/ #OhioSt C Michael Brewster. Great positioning, use of hands. Coachable. Has versatility.

Eric Galko:

Example: USU LB Wagner looked quick, fluid, balanced, Showed pass rush ability. BUT I want to see blocks shed, forceful in traffic this week

---------------------------------------------

Shane Hallam:

I can't see #Missouri TE Michael Egnew cracking my Top 7 TEs. In that Mizzou mold, not dynamic, not a blocker, limited. #SeniorBowl

Very impressed with #Oklahoma CB Jamell Fleming. Physical, athletic, makes adjustments. I was asleep on him before

--------------------------------------------

Sean Jensen:

Bears have spoken to a lot of players here in Mobile, including a pair of receivers named Marvin: Jones from Cal and McNutt from Iowa.

--------------------------------------------

Josh Liskiewitz:

Another rough practice for Kellen Moore - Just doesn't get any power from his legs, kills his velocity and, more importantly, accuracy.

---------------------------------------------

Josh Norris:

Predicting a big day from Brandon Thompson. Looked very quick yesterday shooting gaps but needs to shed consistently with better timing.

Average day for Melvin Ingram yesterday, overran PA fakes and aggressive angles. Needs to show technique combo with athletic ability.

Both Zebrie Sanders and Matt Mccants looked tentative yesterday, Benders. Need to show posture and low balance to recover and anchor.

And expect much of the same from yesterday with with QBs: Weeden on target with touch, Foles uncoordinated but velocity, Lindley low
.

---------------------------------------------

Tony Pauline:

SB replacement Joe Looney/G/Wake Forest is walking around with a boot on his left foot and holding crutches. Will get details later.

Update on Joe Looney/G/Wake Forest from Tuesday AM practice: torn ligament in his foot which will require surgery
.

------------------------------------

Evan Silva:

ESPN's Todd McShay on Kellen Moore: "I think he's tall enough to play in a West Coast system." Says Moore has "turned heads" @ Senior Bowl.

Joe Fortenbaugh:

Potential matchup problem for the North: South Team with 3 wideouts at 6-4 or taller (Fuller, Criner, Jones)

---------------------------------

Eric Galko:

Marquise Maze, Patrick Edwards, Chris Rainey, and Janoris Jenkins retuning punts in South Practice #SeniorBowl

I was at the Shrine Game last week, Senior Bowl last year, and of all those QBs, NONE were as in rhythm w/ WRs naturally as Brandon Weeden
.

-------------------------------

Shane Hallam:

Chris Rainey amd Maize definitely look tiny next to their teammates

So far, Ryan Lindley is throwing EVERYTHING into the ground
.

Dwight Jones and Juron Criner use their bodies so well, very impressive.

-------------------------------

Michael Tanier:

Watching D line drills. Randall from Texas can move for a huge guy

-------------------------------

Scott Wright:

Some VERY impressive physical specimens on the South offensive line. Cordy Glenn, Zebrie Sanders, Matt McCants, etc.

--------------------------------

Shawn Zobel:

Arkansas DE Jake Bequette is working out with the linebackers

Shawn Zobel:

Arkansas DE Jake Bequette is working out with the linebackers

IMO, Weeden is a fringe 1st/2nd round QB, but his age will cost him dearly, dropping him into being 3rd day pick, with a slight chance of being taken in the 3rd.

Matt Bowen:

Louisiana-Lafayette CB Dwight Bentley competing in one-on-ones. Solid plant and drive, uses his hands in press-coverage.

Impressed with Alabama DE/OLB Courtney Upshaw in one-on-one pass rush. Has obvious power, but also uses his hands to shed blocker.

Watching UNC DE Quinton Coples, his speed of the edge jumps out. Looks easy at times to turn the corner. Legit talent
.

-----------------------------

Wes Bunting:

#UNC LB Zach Brown displaying plus COD skills in man, fluid and can really close #seniorbowl

NorthAlabama CB Janoris Jenkins looks rusty, letting receivers getting too far into his cushion, allowing receivers behind him #seniorbowl

Alabama DE Courtney Upshaw flashing good lower body power , strong hands as rusher to overwhelm #seniorbowl

UNC DE Quinton Coples has so much talent, can overwhelm, slip through contact, knows how to disengage #seniorbowl

FSU OT Zebrie Sanders having a tough time to anchor, will struggle until he gets stronger #seniorbowl

--------------------------

Joe Fortenbaugh:

7 on 7: Weeden goes 2/6 with 1 drop. Took a fair share of shots down the field.

7 on 7: Foles goes 5 for 6 with lone incompletion being a deep 9. Some check downs, some 10+ yard gains.

7 on 7: Lindley goes 3 for 5 with all completions coming at 5 yards or less. Almost no shots down the field
.

--------------------------

Eric Galko:

Zebrie Sanders at LT, starts his usual giving of ground. Courtney Upshaw explodes through him, drives his to the ground with one thrust.

Juron Criner with a helluva on-handed grab, consistent hands from what I've seen all day. He, Dwight Jones showing strongest hands out here

This South Defense is really dominating the Offense. Jenkins/Boykin covering/closing well, Ingram/Thimpson/Howard too quick off snap
.

--------------------------

Shane Hallam:

RB Chris Rainey playing WR in practice against former Florida CB Janoris Jenkins

Brandon Weeden is legit. On the money with deep passes. Coaches helping him with footwork. Making me a believer

Texasa&m wr jeff fuller really struggling. dropped two balls on the numbers, one was a pick bt dwight bentley

Markelle Martin gets my star so far. Fluid, great footwork, changes direction on a dime. made play on shot pass to ladarius green.

redskins db coach seems to have taken a liking to Dwight Bentley. Compliments and coaching 1 on 1 at times. #seniorbowl

--------------------------

Matt Miller:

Best corner on either team is Janoris Jenkins. What a stud in man cover.

--------------------------

Josh Norris:

Can't remember if Jeff Allen was here yesterday, but today they've moved Glenn inside to guard with Allen at left tackle.

May have already been says but Rainey is playing receiver today

Dwight Bentley playing his a** off in one on ones. Driving to disrupt at the catch point, not biting on double moves. Lacks make up speed.

Cordy Glenn having a great day on pass pro at guard, a bit over extended but recovering and anchoring well

Full team drills, defense basically running a 3-4, upshaw standing up with SLB at the line. Thompson at NT

Coples getting consistent upfield rush against Sanders

Malik Jackson has arrived, likely coming straight to practice from airport and physical
.

--------------------------

Michael Schottey:

Audible oohs from crowd as Juron Criner snags a nice one handed grab

--------------------------

Sideline View:

Jeff Fuller just can't run anymore. According to scouts in the stands, he is slower than last year and just can't get separation.

-----------------------------

Michael Tanier:

Huge collision between Ingram and Sanders a min ago, with sanders helmet flying. Line drills are fun. #SeniorBowl

Lots of zone stretch here, and no surprise, the defense has a big edge on the o line right now
.

---------------------------

Mike Wilkening:

Florida RB Chris Rainey getting WR reps at South practice. Ran by former Gator teammate Jenkins for a long catch a few minutes ago.

---------------------------

Scott Wright:

Florida St. OT Zebrie Sanders is playing super physical with a nasty temperment vs C. Upshaw and M. Ingram at the #SeniorBowl. #FSU #Noles

Just confirmed that a groin injury is the reason #Clemson DE Andre Branch isn't at the #SeniorBowl.

Matt Bitonti:

@ryanlownes @ChrisSteuber in Fuller's case both statements contain truth. he looks great sometimes but lacks consistency. #nfldraft

South Carolina DB Antonio Allen struggled in coverage but had the hit of the day against Vick Ballard. Stadium went OOOH. #nfldraft

-------------------------------------------

Matt Bowen:

LSU safety Brandon Taylor just filled the alley from the middle of the field, laid out RB. Much more physical practice with the South squad.

Talking to NFL scouts after practice, there was a buzz about the tempo, speed + hitting for the South squad. #SeniorBowl

------------------------------------------

Wes Bunting:

Vanderbilt CB Casey Heyward has been brillant, great feel, can click and close, turn and run, finds football #seniorbowl

Haven't been impressed with #UNC WR Dwight Jones, struggled vs press coverage , not good for bigger guy #seniorbowl

Of the bigger receivers down here, #TexasA&M Jeff Fuller has been most impressive, generates most separation, can go get ball #seniorbowl

Georgia CB Brandon Boykin loves to compete, good closing speed, fiesty, tough to separate from #seniorbowl

------------------------------------------

Joe Everett:

Dallas #Cowboys scout spending a lot of time with #Arkansas DE/OLD Jake Bequette Twitpic - Share photos and videos on Twitter

-------------------------------------------

Eric Galko:

Off to write the South Practice Notes. Thought Brandon Weeden, Juron Criner, and Courtney Upshaw were fantastic. Some good OL insight too

I'll say this little note: If Matt McCants is as coachable as I've seen/heard, may rather him over Mike Adams if he continues to impress
.

-------------------------------------------

Shane Hallam:

The #Ravens will meet with QB Ryan Lindley tonight. #seniorbowl

Ravens also talked with Sean Spence, Dwight Jones, Cordy Glenn, and Jaye hower. After practice. #seniorbowl

chargers and #chiefs talked with Matt McCants, UAB OT after practice. #seniorbowl

Raiders chatted with WR Juron Criner, LB Jake Bequette, LB Sean Spence, RB Terrence Ganaway #seniorbowl

------------------------------------------

Josh Liskiewitz:

Some very competitive battles in 1 on 1s btw CBs and WRs during South practice highlighted by Houston's Pat Edwards vs. UGA's Brandon Boykin

------------------------------------------

Josh Norris:

Zebrie Sanders is going to learn a lot this week from Coples. All different kinds of techniques to disengage. I was high on Sanders before.

And still am. Needs to add strength but Sanders is a future starting tackle
.

-----------------------------------------

Chris Steuber:

Read tweets WR Jeff Fuller can't separate & has dropped balls today. Also read he's most impressive big WR & can separate. My head hurts.

-----------------------------------------

Michael Tanier:

Vick Ballard, RB, Miss St, looks very dngerous as a one cut runner

-----------------------------------------

Benjamin Volin:

CB Janoris Jenkins interviewed with #Dolphins last night

------------------------------------------

Scott Wright:

The hype on #OhioState OT Mike Adams is officially getting out of control. First OT selected? Someone is putting vodka in their @Grapico!

Quite the conflicting reports on my boy Fuller. I guess he's not quite over his broken fibula yet. I would imagine that takes over a year to get back to normal for a WR?

Day 2 Practice Notes: North.

Another day in paradise: sunny but gusty conditions at Ladd-Peebles stadium for this morning's North practice. The Vikings coaching staff ran a professional and peppy practice, with the time periods clearly marked on field clocks.

How to Succeed at the Senior Bowl, Rule 2: Go ahead, start a fight. Scouts and coaches love it.

TRENCH POSITIONS:

Ohio State center Mike Brewster and Michigan defensive tackle Mike Martin didn't quite come to blows, but they were chippy in drills, and on-lookers love that sort of fire. The fact that these two players were from rival schools added to the drama. Overall, Martin had an excellent day. He's got a non-stop motor, plays with leverage and can gap-shoot to blow up the play. Not a fit for 2 gap defenses but certain teams should grade him out as a solid mid-round pick.

As has been noted on other sites, Ohio State tackle Mike Adams is the cream of the crop on the North offensive line. Despite being very tall, he's graceful and easy out of his stance and controls the man in front of him. He has great hands and doesn't get beat often. This player is likely an instant starter at either tackle position and should be in play in the top half of the first round.

One player who did get the best of Adams at least once was Virginia defensive end Cam Johnson. Johnson has a great first step and had to cycle through a variety of pass rush moves to get the job done, but finally beat the Buckeye with a nice swim move in the Pit drills.

UConn defensive end Kendall Reyes had an excellent day. He showed ability to turn the corner on edge rushes and held the point of attack against the run. He was disruptive in 11-on-11 drills and is an overall extremely underrated player. Pending workouts, Reyes' value is in the mid-round area, on the cusp of top 100.

Wisconsin guard Kevin Zeitler is an efficient blocker in pass protection, and often buried his man in run game. The word mauler is often overused but Zeitler is the classic definition of an interior mauler.

Utah offensive lineman Tony Bergstrom was a bit of a sleeper before this week, but scouts are waking up to his play. He had a great morning in drills, pancaking a defender who shall remain nameless in the Pit, and generally doing a great job in blocking. He has exceptional technique and should be a great fit for teams that emphasize the zone running scheme.

SKILL POSITIONS:

Boise State safety George Iloka had an excellent interception in 11-on-11 drills where he laid out for the football and snatched it with good hands. Iloka is impressing scouts with his aggression, pursuit and break to the ball. For a taller safety he has fluid hips and that is a rare combination. It should be noted that Illoka is roughly the same size as some of the linebackers in this game, and he's really making an impact. We are still early in the process, but If he can work out well, could be a second or third round pick.

Appalachian State wide out Brian Quick is raw in route running but displayed sure hands and the ability to climb the ladder and bring down high passes. Coaches undoubtedly see a lot of potential to mold.

Iowa State cornerback Leonard Johnson had a great day, directing traffic and sticky in coverage. He had an excellent deep pass break-up in 11-on-11 and can jam well off the line. Overall, Leonard is an effective man-to-man defender, and his stock is on the rise.

Testament on the Niners' season that I didn't even realize the Senior Bowl was this week until yesterday. For the past decade I've been all over it.
