I had family that lived in Port Orchard, nice town. Always enjoyed heading up to Bremerton and taking the boat ride to Seattle. The place I really enjoyed was where my grandparents used to live. Can't remember the town's name but it was a 30 min ride from Port Orchard and really in the middle of nowhere, but a couple of mins down the road was the bay. Always did little boat rides and lots of fishing, plus on a clear day you could see Mt. Rainer so clearly it looked like it was only a few miles away. If I ever moved, that's where I would go.

Sounds nice that is something you don't get much in the Midwest Majestic views. I did hear though that Oregon and Washington are the prettiest states in America.

Depends on what your idea of "fairly affordable" is.

Well right now my Rent is 600 I doubt I can find it that cheap but I'm not looking to spend upwards of 1000 on rent.

I live in South Jersey so I don't get those majestic views either. I can't complain though, i'm a little under an hour from the jersey shore which is nice and a couple of hours from Lancaster, PA which does have some nice views and good food too.

You are going to have to live a considerable distance (30 miles or more) from Seattle then. Just out of curiosity I checked out the Everett area and a single bedroom apartment starts around $800, two bedroom will be around that $1000-$1200. Now, I did see one apartment around your price range but I'm sure that's because the cockroaches are paying part of your rent.

Do your homework and figure out what jobs work for you and where they are at. If you can work away from Seattle, you might find a pretty nice place and not have to do a 60 mile round trip commute. My wife and I bought our home (20 miles North of Seattle) 15 years ago and we never thought we'd be able to afford it. Now all these years later, the nearby apartments list higher than our mortgage. We joke about not being able to afford to rent. No joke.

Good luck, man. Washington is a great place to live.

Yeah I'm hoping to have a friend come with to split rent. And right now I live about 40 min or so from actual St. Louis city so I don't mind being in the burbs. Sometimes you just want to try something different and Seattle seemed like a great place to go.

Me and a buddy.

Rent in this town is expensive right now. If you're going to work in or around the city, you're looking at $1000 and up easy for a 2-bed not in the hood.

Ah, single guy. Wow, it's been so long that I forgot what it's like. Good luck, man.

Well I certainly have to do my homework I was trying to find out what was really considered the burbs and places that were pretty nice places to live. Like even though North of St. Louis is not considered the actual city you really don't want to live there if you have a desire to keep your stuff and not get shot.

Yeah it does afford you some luxuries that you lose when you get married. Though I am sure there are positives to a wife and kids as well.

Mmmmm south is affordable. My address says Auburn but it's more like Federal Way. Affordable and easy access to 405 or I5 or highway 18. My sister went way south and bought in Lacy, got a really good value on the house she bought, really good.
This.

It'll be tough to find a nice place for 1000. Check out the auburn/federal way area as was mentioned. Even tacoma's not all bad.

This is good I'm getting sick of 98 degrees and 100 percent humidity
Come on over and get reacquainted with a couple of your former running backs.
Look on Craigslist for the job situation. There are gobs of jobs in the Northwest. Things are rocking pretty good around here. Housing is pricey though.

$8K in property taxes? OMG. Wow, that's is extreme. I guess it depends on how much your other taxes are? Sales tax? State Income Tax?
In these parts, if you have a $200k home, you will pay about $2K in annual property tax. Double it for a $400k home... ect.
