Cheap, fast 4th OF...

Rangers designated OF Eli White for assignment.

White comes off the 40-man roster to make room for the recently claimed Nick Mears. The outfielder hit just .200 in 105 at-bats with the Rangers in 2022 before a wrist injury cost him the rest of the season, but did steal 12 bases and is one of the faster players at the highest level. It shouldn't be a surprise if he was able to find a new home in the coming days.
Worth a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. Kind of like Billy Hamilton a few years back.

Thing is to handle a reynolds trade..you need to...prob.do one trade.
Before that....
Just to aquire..some ..higher..number guys..

You remember how well that went the first time?
Honestly all I remember is that the Mariners tried going all in. I don't know how close they were to landing him, but at the time it wasn't stupid for him to choose Anaheim. He joined a team that had - IMO the best player we've seen this century - with Mike Trout in his prime in a huge market.

Given our history with Japanese players and the substantial Japanese-American population in Seattle, I don't think Seattle should ever be ruled out. If the Mariners show Ohtani the money, I think we'd have a very significant chance of landing him, but that's a huge if.

I have said this before but Swanson isn't being given enough credit for what he did and how much he will be missed. If you think Gott will replace him, well we have an issue boys...lol.
I know this comes with the caveat that some of this is inflated by him being a starter, but prior to last year his career ERA was 5.44. It was 3.31 last year, so I think there's an argument to be had that the year he had might of been a bit of a aberration. Although I'll be completely honest that I'm a bit biased in the fact that bullpen guys are a dime a dozen and easily replaced if necessary. Every trade deadline there are tons of non-competing teams with strong vet bullpen arms who they'll trade away for very little.

It's truly a big disappointment when Jerry said they'll open the checkbook. As we stand the Mariners are still a ways off behind the astros.
Not trying to say you're wrong, but did he really say that lol? If so, when? I feel like the entire offseason he has defended not spending money.

I do agree that we're currently miles behind the Astros. As I mentioned I'd say we're slightly better on paper, but if Suarez hits like he did in 2021 then I'd say this team is worse going into next year.

The thing that concerns me is that we're a few injuries to the lineup away from being just a .500 team. The more I think about it, if the Mariners have any injury hits to key players, I'd be surprised if we made the playoffs.

No they will likely overpay in prospects to trade for someone at this point.

Realistic there is no excuse for passing on guys like JDM and Brantley who could have easily made the team better for 2023 and not hampered you for future years (which is the excuse of the offseason).

But yeah i fully expect dipoto to talk out the side of his mouth and end up trading for someone. If we do sign anyone god forbid, it will be someone like Pollack who isnt that noteworthy.

We are about 4 weeks from the interview where he pumps up Kelenic and Trammell as starters he feels good about which lol
Sadly I completely agree.

J.D. Martinez and Michael Brantley just made way too much sense and I can't fathom why they didn't go after either of them. J.D. signed for one year $10m and I think Brantley signed for one year $13m. That doesn't impact our future payroll whatsoever which is Dipoto's biggest argument for not spending.

If we're talking about trading for Reynolds, I don't even think we have the prospect capital to trade for him. Mariners could offer them their pick of 4 of our top prospects and personally if I'm the Pirates I wouldn't take that deal.

I feel like the comment was made after the playoffs ended to which I agreed with cause I believed Seattle was a couple of pieces away from a serious run to the WS. If he's defending his not spending than that has come from ownership and that's ashame.

But they don't come for free. And no, not all relievers are the same. Just rewatch the Astros playoff series.

He didn't want Seattle because Ichiro already made his mark here and he didn't want to follow his path.

Jerry said this offseason and last that Stanton gave him checkbook if the right player comes along. Stanton said he told Dipoto that as well last offseason. I listened to the podcast and heard him say it. Apparently the right deal never came along and never will.

This right here is why I'm pissed off the off-season has pretty much been a bust.

From the way it has been reported is that he didn’t want to follow in the footsteps of Ichiro. I give the Mariners a .01% chance of signing him, though the team I would have bet money was the Mets and there is no way they can sign him after this offseason.
