Did you listen to the one he went on a rant at those fans who complain about not spending? I just about lost it.
Yeah, that specifically is the one where I started thinking he doesn’t have a coherent thought and when I started hate listening. And truth be told that is where I got the Braves comparison that he tries thinking the Mariners can replicate. The Mariners aren’t remotely as the overall talent level the Braves were/are at in their rebuild. And pretending letting Swanson leave and Haniger leave is the same plus the Matt Olsen trade is the same as Teoscar’s trade isn’t being serious. The Braves had 6 all stars, going into next season the Mariners have Castillo and Julio, with possibly Kirby if he sustains his success. Yes France made the all star game but is anyone really going to pretend France had an all star season?

For some reason he is like all of the internet lackeys that think fans wanted them to grab multiple free agents or blow the budget up to the Padres. The only time the fans even bring up the budget is when Jerry or Stanton talk about how it is a mid market team and there is zero reason they can’t afford to pay Castillo, Julio, Gilbert, Kirby and Raleigh plus another high priced free agent in 2026. Did anyone of the FA’s fans wanted last year live up to their contracts, no but they were better than Winker, Frazier of Moore last year. Are any of the FA this year going to live up to their contracts, who knows but Correa being overpaid is better than having to overpay Moore, Teoscar or Wong because they can’t afford them to leave. This off-season isn’t over but there isn’t anything they can really do that now that doesn’t put them in the exact same position next year where they need at least 1 COF and a 2B plus probably a LF.

The Mariners had a highly rated farm system but after the Castillo trade it proved that it wasn’t deep. Building a championship team through trades only means you will be subtracting from the current roster which defeats the whole purpose. He talks about of both sides of his mouth when it comes to the front office and how to build the roster. Plus I really hate the phrase sustained success, so we as fans are suppose to hope for the wildcard every year and an occasional ALCS?

Sorry, rant over.

Can't trade Flexen. Can't trade Gonzalez. The odds of going through a second consecutive season of all starting pitchers avoiding major arm injuries is not good. I don't want it or wish it, but one of the other guys will probably seriously hurt his pitching arm at some point. Nowadays, with starting pitchers only averaging about 30 starts and 170 innings a year, a team needs to be at least six starting pitchers deep. Last thing we want is to fall into a position where we have to rush one of our young minor-league pitchers to the majors because we are suddenly a man or two short in the rotation.

Of course teams want Flexen. Free agents of his caliber are getting 3year/$45 million deals this winter. He is as good as Tallion. Tallion signed for 4/$68 million. Teams are desperate. But, we need to keep him.
Fair, but Mariners do have a couple of arms in the minors that can be number 5’s if they wish to deal them. But right now what can they really add by trading them. The roster is set except if they trade Kelenic and Brash/Kirby/Gilbert or whoever for Reynolds.

But also on that same note. It just 2 off seasons ago where Jerry implied that 6 man rotations are the way of the future so who knows.

One last thing to put on my rant. Jerry said last year the Mariners weren’t interested in any rentals at the deadline when us fans were begging for a bat. But this off-season his only moves are for 1 year rentals. Either he needs to throw ownership under the bus for being cheap or he needs to shut up.

And like I have argued with him in the past, no fan has asked them to spend to win. They are asking to improve the talent level in bigger strides which of course takes bigger money. His type always talks about how just throwing money out there won't work. Yes that is true, but no team gets worse by adding better talent. And again, talent costs money.

Again, nailed it. You can't sustained winning by just trading. It takes us 5 years to add MLB talent. At some point you get depleted or trade that guy that makes you regret it. People don't talk about it, but one of the Marlins most called on pitcher for trades is Pablo Lopez. Remember him? We traded him and 3 others for that Mariner Legend David Phelps.

Not Gilbert. The others guys, sure. But not Gilbert. Just the thought of trading him gives me flashbacks of the Adam Jones trade. Or Chris Taylor. Or Podsednik. Or Shin Soo Choo. But Kelenic and a couple of lower-level guys for Reynolds? Hell yeah.
