So as we can see...the high..road...of mass high.doller..contracts..will.
Ruin teams..at the expense,..of free.,agents..
After..a couple years..
To not be heard from again....till.they rebuild..
And clear...the high roller..
Contracts.,good job..

Jedi..did not fall..for the trap......

I think Cruz is an anomaly. Don't know how many guys outside of the steroid era who hit like he did from 35-40. He averaged 35 HRs .282/.363/.551 per season over that span and that includes the covid shorted season in which he hit 16 HRs in 55 games, which would be 44 HRs over 150 games.
He might be an anomaly but one person just shows a guy with that body frame and can do it. Especially if he becomes just a DH instead of the wear and tear from the field (which is why I want Julio to get out of playing CF). Not saying Judge will be Nelson Cruz but I think the chances of him being decent towards the end of the contract is higher than Boegarts. And problem is whether the FO likes it or not, that is where contracts are headed.

Can't trade Flexen. Can't trade Gonzalez. The odds of going through a second consecutive season of all starting pitchers avoiding major arm injuries is not good. I don't want it or wish it, but one of the other guys will probably seriously hurt his pitching arm at some point. Nowadays, with starting pitchers only averaging about 30 starts and 170 innings a year, a team needs to be at least six starting pitchers deep. Last thing we want is to fall into a position where we have to rush one of our young minor-league pitchers to the majors because we are suddenly a man or two short in the rotation.

Of course teams want Flexen. Free agents of his caliber are getting 3year/$45 million deals this winter. He is as good as Tallion. Tallion signed for 4/$68 million. Teams are desperate. But, we need to keep him.

This is the issue you encounter when you are so reliant on trades to build your roster. Unless you are just ok doing a bunch of sidegrades or similar to the deal with Toronto when you give up a major league piece, teams arent gonna wave the white flag as easily as they did in the past with extra wild card spots.
