One thing that was brought up as a snide remark and food for thought. Ownership did allow them to open up the checkbook for one guy last year and it appears they paid ace money for a number 4 starter. Could possibly give hesitation of spending big money.

With the new limitations on defensive shifts next year, I wouldn't bet on anyone's BA next year. We are going to find out who still remembers how to hit.

Most of the FA contracts this year were ridiculous and I'm glad we passed on them. But the one that pisses me off is Josh Bell to the Indians for 2 years/$33. We could have afforded that. Easily.

I get that theory, but free agents aren’t going to be getting any cheaper and they have done zero to address the future. They got Teoscar and Wong but if they decide to go down this 1 year path because they got dudes to sign then there is zero chance they will ever win the World Series. Resigning those 2 isn’t going to be cheap either with where the market has been set. Now it just circles back to the stupid ass Wong decision where they had the chance to get the guy with zero strings attached and used that trade capital on a different hole to fill.

Their farm system is too young to make anymore big trades without hurting this years team. IMO it would be idiotic to use all of these high draft picks with the theory of trading them.

Whole problem with the entire philosophy of Jerry’s plan is he thinks he is the Braves where all of their talent was homegrown or through trades. The Mariners can’t be that way because the “rebuild” was too short. He has gotten a bunch of pitchers and Julio from the farm system. We all love Raleigh for what he has done thus far but it is a small sample size but he is like France and Geno so far, when he is hot he is very hot and when cold very cold. JP has had 1 real good season and that is that of a pre Cal Ripken style SS’s. This isn’t to shit on any of these guys but I hate the comparison to the Braves because the Braves had a lot more young talent and a deeper farm system.

Just as a fan of the Mariners I want them to show me their goal should be to win the World Series, which they say it is but there moves say they are trying to play with the Blue Jays and Cleveland not the Astros.

An eh, I’m not so sure about that exactly. With the shift it proved people couldn’t hit IMO. The defense literally was giving up an easy single when they put the shift on but everyone kept trying to beat the shift by hitting into the shift. Not really sure the shift being outlawed is going to really help the modern theory of hitting which is walk, strikeout or homer run.

It will open up bigger holes for natural pull hitters. All the times I saw Kyle Seager ground out to right field when the second baseman fielded the ball 25 beyond the infield grass? Yeah, that shit is going to stop.

Ironically, the guy it might hurt is Ty France because most of his singles were opposite-field singles. The hole there won't be as big for him there as it has been the last two years.
