The new rule: Pitchers will have 15 seconds to throw a pitch with the bases empty and 20 seconds with a runner on base. Hitters will need to be in the batter's box with eight seconds on the pitch clock.

There will be alot of attempted exploitation of this specific pitch rule change.

After the 2nd toss over to 1st base, the runner could theoretically nearly get a running start / VERY early jump on his steal attempt once the clock ticks to the 19 second mark.

But then again, does the fine print of this rule make statements related to the pitcher simply stepping back OFF the rubber at which point he can make a fake attempt to 1st base ? Or does the 20 second rule over ride and prevent this from happening ??

My understanding is that you can make a 3rd throw over but if safe it is a balk.

I know in the minors trial run they could step off and restart the clock which I thought was defeating the purpose. This will be....interesting?

There will be ways to 'beat the system'

Pitchers have the ear piece that hears the catchers pitch selection they wear on their knee thigh area to call pitches electronically.
Multiple games I watched last year there were delays / problems with this device not working correctly.

I think it's going to be a shit show myself until they get the kinks worked out of it. Any ruling against 1 team or another will result in that manager raising the bullshit flag and arguing with the umps over it.

I think if he takes off it isn't a balk. Only if they throw for the 3rd time and he gets back to 1B on the throw.
