Seahawks, Marshawn Lynch have deal in place for 2015
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(2/21/15) The Seahawks and running back Marshawn Lynch have a deal in place to bring him back for the 2015 season, according to CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora.
The deal, which is expected to be announced in the coming days, would be worth $12 million in the first year and $9 million in the second.

Lynch's agent, Doug Hendrickson, said there is no deal done, but La Canfora reports the deal is on the table and will result in a signing.

Lynch, who was reportedly considering retirement, ran for 1,306 yards in 2014 on 280 carries with 13 touchdowns.

Puts him as the 2nd highest paid RB in the NFL behind AP. Sounds about right. Looks like a good deal for both. Lynch gets paid big bucks and the Seahawks keep one of their best players for another year or two. Obviously haven't seen the details of the contract to see his actual cap hit but looks like it does raise his cap hit this next year by a few million. This doesn't destroy their chances of signing the main guys they want but it does affect the ability to build depth along with what will be big contracts for Wagner and Wilson. That was going to be the case anyway.

Still think this is a bit premature. Likely, but premature. His agent is denying it is a done deal and until his camp says anything official it's just too soon to declare victory.

Maybe it's just me but this seem like a lot of money for a RB. Even an elite one.

Happy for the Hawks if this is the deal they want, but would caution that La Canfora has jumped the gun before with inaccurate info.

That would make sense if we were talking about a team in the middle of the pack or lower but the Seahawks are still in prime position to win championships. You don't have to care as much about paying a premium for a guy when you know he's a huge part of whether or not you could win the Super Bowl next year.

Well that and Lynch is entirely unpredictable. I'm not buying it until his camp confirms it.

No question you know your teams needs better than I do and the $$ available to spend. And whether it's worth it to Yall.

Not busting on Lynch at all, he's a game changing player for sure. Just seems like there are a ton of RBs out there that would do a 'very decent' job for a hell of a lot less money.

They didn't over pay. Now the city of Seattle can breath a sigh of relief. Congrats.

If 1306 yards gets you $12 million I shudder to think what it's going to cost Dallas to sign Murray.

Too much money for an older RB unless it is only a one year deal.

I'm sure Murray's agent is taking notice.

You also have to consider the fact that he is the kind of back that seeks out contact. We all love to watch that but it is without question that those kind of backs can have a shorter life span. I remember Marion Barber was another angry runner.

i think the wear and tear got to him and he retired after the 2011 season and I think he started just 2 years before lynch.

It's what getting 1306 yards behind the Seahawks' offensive line gets you. Getting that number of yards behind Dallas's premium-quality, premium-cost line is a whole other kettle of fish. Murray is fungible. Lynch isn't. There are maybe two RBs in the league that could do what he did behind that O line, and AP costs even more.

Apples and oranges. Measuring what a player means to a team by yards alone is grossly inadequate. Lynch's YAC threat even when defenses play him correctly is freaking huge to Wilson's play action and zone read running games. His value in that is tremendous.

Yeah, a 28y/o rusher is damn near ready for his AARP card. :L
