I have been saying lately that what we need among other things is consistency. Sweeping the Astros is no easy task. We have lost games by 1 or 2 runs which we could have easily won. RISP have hurt us and cost us to many games or at least a chance at winning. I know we have needs but none greater than being consistent regardless of the players. When we have been, it has shown and today it showed once more. Can't beat good pitching and clutch hitting.

I think David Dahl is deadweight.
probably won't be around next year. A little culling to do. I think the OF will be Lto R Calhoun Garcia FA.

From Adam Morris this morning.

BA has the Texas Rangers taking California prep shortstop Marcelo Mayer at #2, as Jordan Lawlar, the Dallas Jesuit product who the Rangers have been following closely this spring, goes to Pittsburgh at #1 in this mock. Jack Leiter, who had seemingly been anointed by some as the #1 pick a couple of months ago, drops to #4, while his Vanderbilt rotation-mate Kumar Rocker slides all the way to #7.

The top of the draft is described by BA (and a scouting director quoted in the intro to the updated mock) as “wide open,” and so while we have talked about Lawlar, Mayer, Rocker, Leiter and Louisville catcher Henry Davis as the consensus top tier, that appears to be set in pencil rather than stone right now, and Georgia prep shortstop Brady House sneaks into the top three in this permutation.

I had no idea prep shortstops were so highly regarded

I remember we regarded Elvis as a fine catch but can not remember where he was rated. Glad we got him.

Each team's most indispensable player

RANGERS: Adolis García

It’s not even close, especially after a hot weekend as Texas swept the Astros in a three-game series at home. In Game 1, Garcia hit a walk-off homer to win in 10 innings. He hit two home runs in Game 2 and walked it off again in Game 3, this time with an RBI single. He has three walk-off hits on the season and has been nearly unstoppable in the month of May in which he’s hit .329/.367/.671 with nine home runs and 24 RBIs. Manager Chris Woodward called him the greatest hitter in the world and it’s hard to disagree with him right now.

Off-Day question:

Game on the line, who do you want at the plate: Gallo or Garcia?

Kyle Gibson has been fairly indispensable himself.
