So Dexter is a bit of a riff on Kevin Costner's Mr. Brooks, right? Somewhat sympathetic serial killer.

Actually, the other way around. The Dexter TV show was based on a series of books by Jeff Lindsey (I have read the first one, which is almost word-for-word the first season).

Mr. Brooks is a good movie, but it def got it's inspiration from Dexter (even down to his imaginary friend, named "The Dark Passenger" in the Dexter universe).

Heroes sucked after the first season (heck, even the second half of s1 was kinda weak).

DLM I caught after the fact, and never in any serious viewing. It was enjoyable, but that was about it for me (and Muth is just too sickly looking to watch seriously).

I gotta agree on Weeds, but I think it was done once the town burned down (was that the end of s3? I guess we agree). The show lost all anchors and just seemed lost.

How did I miss The Usual Suspects? That is one of my favorite movies. I love Fight Club, too, but that one is at least a little more understandable (already admitted as vague). Crying Game! And Primal Fear! Once again, I am penalized for doing the majority of my lifetime movie watching in the late 90s to present.

+1. Except I still need to check out the last half of season 4 and start 5, so I can't back that up.

Weeds gets to be a bit much around the middle of season 4. You'll continue watching because the characters are awesome, and you wanna know what happens to them even though you don't actually care about the show anymore. It sounds strange, but that is what happened to me with Weeds, Heroes and Dead Like Me. You've got a lot of watching to do. Enjoy.

I tried to watch Heroes, but the writing was just too abysmal for me. I really like the concept, but like most everything non-cable the writing is pure crap.

She's wooden and overemotes. Also, the Laguerta character (Lauren Velez -- AU's sister??) is AW--FUL. Cringeworthy. Unfortunately, Carpenter and Velez spend way too much time on screen.

Heroes lost it early. It's like the writer had a nice initial concept and story arc, but upon it's success had to scramble to come up with additional twists. I stopped watching early in season two. I liked Dead Like Me - but it jumped the shark a bit with the introduction of the pet reaper.

+1. Heroes was good for about 4 episodes, then it became a Hayden Panettiere vehicle and just lame. Again, great concept -- shitty execution. Zachary Quinto (Sylar) showed promise though. I didn't survive season 1.
