Haven't seen it - probably won't. Just now getting into season one of Dexter, and Weeds.

I envy you. GREAT season. Seasons 3 and 4 lag a bit, but this season (s5) is back to quality. Probably the 3rd best season of the show...

+1. Except I still need to check out the last half of season 4 and start 5, so I can't back that up.

Weeds gets to be a bit much around the middle of season 4. You'll continue watching because the characters are awesome, and you wanna know what happens to them even though you don't actually care about the show anymore. It sounds strange, but that is what happened to me with Weeds, Heroes and Dead Like Me. You've got a lot of watching to do. Enjoy.

Heroes sucked after the first season (heck, even the second half of s1 was kinda weak).

DLM I caught after the fact, and never in any serious viewing. It was enjoyable, but that was about it for me (and Muth is just too sickly looking to watch seriously).

I gotta agree on Weeds, but I think it was done once the town burned down (was that the end of s3? I guess we agree). The show lost all anchors and just seemed lost.

Sabean never talks up minor leaguers. Belt must be something really special.

Exactly. This is from another board-

In reading Mr. Sabean's comments on prospect Brandon Belt, I make three observations...

First, the Giants have been a bit of an anomaly - they have had winning seasons in 12 of the past 20 seasons - making the post season in 5 of those years, and the World Series twice. We are not talking about the Cubs or the Expos/Nationals here (no offense to those fans). Simply put, while the Giants have not exactly emulated the NY Yankees, over the past 20 years the Giants have tasted success. The anomaly lies in the fact that they have done it, until recently, with almost no help from rookies. Which leads us to…

…Second, in those same 20 years, the Giants have had exactly ONE Rookie of the Year - Buster Posey in 2010. That's right, just one. As a matter of fact, in the past 20 seasons, the Giants have had all of four players who even got a vote in the ROY balloting. They are: Matt Cain (5th place 2006); Ryan Jensen (6th place 2002); William VanLandingham (7th place 1994); John Burkett (4th place 1990). That’s it. Outside of Matt Cain, the ROY candidates have been names to fill out the bottom of the voter’s ballots. In short, until 2010, the success the Giants have known these past 20 years has come with very little help from rookies. Indeed, for most of that time, fans of the Giants have been asked to get excited about home grown talent with names like J.R. Phillips, Cody Ransom, Todd Linden, Pedro Feliz, Armando Rios, Calvin Murray, Damon Minor, Brian Dallimore, Dan Ortmeier, Kevin Frandsen, and Eugenio Velez.

Third, Mr. Sabean has been GM of the Giants for most of those 20 years – and, like him or hate him, he is not a rash fellow. When was the last time he made a bold prediction – and a public one - about a Giant’s prospect? Just look at how he held back Tim Lincecum and Buster Posey in recent years. Yes, one could make the case that there were arbitration time-of-service issues involved with those players, but I for one cannot recall Mr. Sabean making public such bold praise for a rookie as I have just seen with Brandon Belt. No, to paraphrase a line spoken by John Wayne: “Ask anybody, and they’ll tell ya, Brian Sabean is a mighty cautious citizen” (bonus points for anyone who can name the movie).

I have seen Brandon Belt – he has a very advanced approach for a young hitter. I would make the bold prediction that in his first full year, he is capable of either hitting .300 or drawing 100 walks – his plate discipline is that good. And he is very smooth around first base.

Yes, if Mr. Sabean is willing to be that effusive about Brandon Belt, I believe the Giants might see their first back to back ROY winners since Orlando Cepeda (1958) and Willie McCovey (1959).

And the fact that we are even discussing the possibility of such an event speaks volumes about the current state of the Giants.

Dexter is an interesting series. Michael C. Hall is amazing, but many of the female actors (esp his wife Jennifer Carpenter, who plays his sister) are just downright unwatchable. John Lithgow in season 4 and Peter Weller in season 5 are quite good. I like how the plot is evolving in Season 5 with Julia Stiles.

I can save you some time on Weeds: Mary Louise-Parker is going to drink a bunch of caffinated beverages and the hackneyed plot line between Kevin Nealon and Justin Kirk appearances are unbearable. Seriously. That's some baaaaad TV.

Check out Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and of course, The Wire if you haven't already.

Yeah, from Season 4 on, Parker's character became really unlikeable. Nealon's act was worn out by season 3. Not a good show anymore.

Dexter is a great show! I'm also a big fan of the way the show is evolving, but his wife is painful to watch.

Exhibit A on why I'm just about done with McCovey Chronicles, a comment on Gran't recent poll about where Belt should start and discussion of Sabean's praise of Belt.

This is funny.
Mostly because our speculation is useless. Nothing the front office says is to be trusted; a World Series victory shouldn’t change that. Bork will do whatever he wants; Sabean has no problem lying through his teeth.

I voted for Belt at first and Huff in left.

"Career potential: situational lefty." Situation: Ragnarok, bases loaded, Odin at the plate. You know who's getting the call.

Is that even fucking English? I'm all for advanced Sabermetrics.....hell, I'm trying in vain to learn more about them.....but for the love of Christ, what happened to watching with our eyes???

(keep in mind this is coming from a guy who knows very little about advanced metrics.....and that's being kind to myself.....)

I'm sorry.....I'm just not very smart and venting :)

So Dexter is a bit of a riff on Kevin Costner's Mr. Brooks, right? Somewhat sympathetic serial killer.

Heroes lost it early. It's like the writer had a nice initial concept and story arc, but upon it's success had to scramble to come up with additional twists. I stopped watching early in season two. I liked Dead Like Me - but it jumped the shark a bit with the introduction of the pet reaper.

Easy.... just switch to Dish Network - they pulled the plug on CSN Bay Area.
