Named to PFF's Pro-Bowl team.

Not bad. The guy has been a load blocking, and looks decent enough catching passes that I wonder if you don't see him used more in that area moving forward.

I think he has been fantastic...... Best tight end/H-back we've had around here for a long time. Funny that our two first round guys have been disappointing and Hewitt has been a steal.

I'm a huge fan of the work he does in the run game.... Everyone grumbles about keeping fullbacks (or H-backs in this case), but it makes a huge difference.

When you plan to run it like the Bengals do, you need a FB that can block first. If he can add value to the team by also catching a few passes, then that is a bonus.

The past several years the Bengals have done this backwards getting a guy that is a pass-catcher who can't block....How many plays are you going to run for a pass-catching FB in a year? 3? I could see a few goal-line looks, but at the point why not just use a regular TE like most teams do?

If you have a FB, he's got to block. Hewitt has certainly shown he can do that, and it shows in the power running game.

I'm a big fan of Hewitt. Have been since training camp. The dude flat out brings it in the run game. He has now proven to be of use as a pass catcher. He's what we hoped Orson Charles would be. Difference is that Hewitt actually played FB at Stanford, and was a big part of their success on the ground. He's a TE who happens to be a great lead blocker. Steal for the Bengals.

I think he's our third best player on offense, behind only Whit and AJ..........

but of course our coaching staff would disagree and say that Peko is better at blocking.

when pot becomes legal in Ohio we'll find out why.

I am not sure Whit is as good as he used to be, and while Hewitt is good, I would still list Hill ahead of Hewitt on offense.

In 460 snaps in pass protection this year, he has allowed 0 sacks and only 1 hit. He's graded third of all tackles by PFF. He's having the best year of his career. He's healthy for the first time since early 2012.

A little more sure now?

BTW those pass blocking stats are nothing short of phenomenal.

very good considering many of us were worried that he could hold up at the tackle position and should just move to guard.

How can you give up 1 hit all year and only be third?

In pass blocking efficiency he's ranked 1st with 1 hit and 7 hurries allowed.

Overall, in cumulative positive/negative PLAYS made during the course of his action, he's 3rd at +30.6 behind only Joe Thomas and Jason Peters.

The two guys ahead of him overall have more snaps. On a points per 100 snap basis he is a close second to Thomas overall. Jason Peters has had 78 more snaps than Whit, Thomas 44 more. Also the Eagles have passed much more than the Bengals, inflating Peters' pass block rating in comparison to Whit's.

On a points per 100 snaps basis (pass blocking)

Whit 4.18
Thomas 3.93
Peters 3.56

Those of us who wanted him to move to guard wanted Collins to re-sign here as the LT. The thought was Collins at LT was much better than Boling at LG. Whit would have been an elite LG or LT. Collins, as it turns out, has had a horrible year in Tampa (10 games, 643 snaps, cumulative rating -12.9).

He probably still would have been a good fit here. Knows the scheme better and has played along side everyone. He certainly would have been better than Newhouse, that is for sure...but, you can't always pay your backups 10MM or whatever it is he got.

Oh well, water under the bridge at this point...maybe he'll be released and the Bengals can re-sign him to a cheaper deal next year?

Collins got someone to pay him big bucks for a small sample size of work. More power to him. I didn't want to see the Bengals re-sign him for big money. He got paid, and now he'll get cut, and maybe end up back here, who knows.
As for Whit, I will say, i am shocked by those numbers. I sure didn't think he was that effective.
He's always been overlooked by the media, (much like Willie Anderson) I'm not sure if its because he plays in Cincy, or because he wasn't a top pick, or doesn't make huge money. I just hate when he makes a big pre-game speech that they show on tv, and then the team comes out flat
