Why would you throw to your worst player, on a bad route for the area, with a QB who's strength isn't that throw with zero threat of a run out of the play formation?

If you want to say it was the wrong play call, fine
If you want to say it was a bad throw, fine.
If you want to say it was a bad decision, fine.

But to say it is ALL of those things and yet they STILL nearly scored makes no sense.

I have plenty of examples of wrong play call, bad throws and bad decisions. And they never revolves extremely tight plays that could have easily resulted in a positive outlook.

AJ McCarron's pass on Sunday was an example of all 3.

He threw it well enough last year. I don't know why you Pats fans don't want to take the opportunity to brag up one of your own instead of going after Wilson. You guys should be talking about what a great play Butler made, not that it was a bad throw. That throw was actually right on the money, but between Lockett short arming it and Butler's great read it became a pick. Give Butler all the credit in the world. He was the hero for sure.

Nah, you sposed-ta say "Pass interference!"

So everything was bad about the play and yet it was a split second away from winning the game?

This has always been my take from before the play was ever even completed:

They committed every single no no in the book down near the goal line, all on one play, and the greatest indicator they were in trouble is when Belichick did not use a time out when the entire world was thinking he should be

- Split the best RB in the NFL out wide, completely removing him from the play making it so much easier to defend....(i never thought they "had to run" in that spot, but any pass play MUST be executed with the Lynch deception, and they took care of that by splitting him out)

- Not only throw to the middle of the field down near the goal line, something you should try to avoid in that spot entirely, but he "leads" his receiver, the WORST receiver on the roster, into coverage.....The angle shown in that picture is deceiving, that throw led Lockett, that wasnt heading directly into his chest.....Into his chest or even on the back shoulder is where that throw needs to be...Leading a bad receiver into coverage, a receiver that wont fight for that ball like a great receiver would, that was a big gaffe by Wilson and the coaching staff

And i like Wilson, Im not a hater, but the second Lynch split wide, i completely expected a bad result on that play, i was just hoping an incomplete would be the bad result

You really want to debate if that was a "good throw"? Man, the apologists for Wilson in Seattle are amazing.
It was a bad decision, hence, a bad throw. The call however, was worse.

I think DirtDirt summed it up perfectly above.

Good point, Butler made a great play, but had Lockette ran a better pattern and try to stretch out to catch the ball, then Butler would have had to run through Lockette to pick it off. IMO Lockette didn't run a very good patten.

It was astounding how little criticism he got after that game. The media loves the guy. Carroll took the brunt of it, which was totally unfair. The play call is fine (hindsight is 20/20) and simply required your QB not to make an infinitely horrifying decision....something a coach should be able to rely on in the Super Bowl.

Huh? You think Wilson calls his own plays? How was it Wilson's decision?

He makes contact before the ball got there. That's a fact.

No. That's what happened.

And if you swapped teams there would've been 18 flags and 4 hats on the field.
