gorgeous day at the Mud Flats... not quite so sloppy 41/42... weekend off then hitting four great runs MO>TH in northern Michigan... leaving for Colorado on the 22nd, hitting 3 courses on the drive out (haha)... playing Keystone's two runs to finish the craziest golf month ever.

NOTE to @NEhomer : Dunno if @foster4prez can join the Tobacco Road trip, or if he comes he brings a fourth... but... if not, the invite is open.
NOTE to foster: I think I noted greens aeration at TR and THF in mid/late AUG.

48/41 this morning. I hadn't played in 4 weeks and it showed on the greens. I hit it about as all as I have in years on the back though, so I'm really pleased with my ball-striking atm.. could have easily been a couple over par with halfway decent putting. Looking forward to trying again tomorrow if my cousin's wife will let him play 2 days in a row. lol

shot a 46 last night in my league at the local goat trail...

I was terrible off the tee and on the green. Pretty good inbetween....but I don't know what was going on. Felt like I was pulling in my hands on the tee shots and pulling everything to the left. Putting...I think I was breaking my wrist my aim was way off.

I will take a 46...but it should have been so much better.

guy I played with shot a 34, so that made me look a little worse.

Monday @ Sundance... links course with only a handful of trees, all of which I hit... 45/43... many raked traps and waste areas were visited too.
Tuesday @ The Legend... Palmer course... 47/51... beautiful, challenging design with shit tons of elevation changes - relatively easy making the huge greens... but it seemed like everything more than 10' from the pin was an automatic 3putt (I had nine.)
Wednesday @ Cedar River... Weiskopf's Michigan Jewel (imo)... even the Arizona Golf snobs were impressed... 43/41... 20-yd chip-in and two birds.
Thursday @ The Nightmare... $60... haha... love this course... immaculate, lush, wide fairways, nice greens, few traps... 39/45... will play again.

got home about 20 minutes ago... 3-hr drive from West Branch, MI (Nightmare)... beat

Got out to Pinehurst #10 "Sandmines" yesterday. This is a great track. 6500 yards Par 70 from the whites. Back nine is an absolute beast.

Took three doubles on the back and birdied 18 for a 40-42. I have lost absolutely all my confidence on the greens. No clue on distance control or reads and god forbid my shaky ass has to stand over a 4 footer for par.

That being said, a great day.

Not really keeping score...unless I start out hot.

Really practicing making sure that I rotate my chest through the entire swing instead of mostly with my arms. I've even compressed the ball a couple of times...amazing how many extra yards you get when you do it.

Got only 15 in the other day. The rain kept chasing us to the clubhouse. After the 3rd time we just left after it started pouring again on 15. But I chipped it to 6" to save par so I left happy. 45 on the front and I was 2 under even 5s on the back. I'm hitting it ok but I need a couple hours around the practice green chipping and putting.

Duke University's course today. It was good. Interesting green complexes. Greens super smooth and fast. Outside of an eagle on 14, literally not a single good golf shot was hit today. 44-41. Gross.

Tomorrow off to Tot Hill. Can't wait.

It took 8 holes but I found my swing again! Started off bogey-double and really grinded to just be +6 thru 8. Then something clicked and we were on. Two birdies and two bogeys over the next 10 holes for a 42-36. Lipped out a birdie on 18. But was smoking shots left and right. Tot Hill is so much fun. Strantz is the goat.

TPC Deere Run, Silvis ILL... FR.23.AUG... 41/42 on 6,274yd Blue/Whites... beautiful course, fabulous support staff... nice treat to counter long boring drive.

thumbnail (3).jpg

Skipped playing Tiburon in Omaha on the 24th due to sore back (must have pulled it on one of my sonic 175yd drives :L); skipped Omaha altogether; on SU.25.AUG played Kearney's 6,029 yd (Whites) quite unexpectedly sweet Meadowlark Hills... 40/41... 29 putts (super true greens that even I could read).

Keystone was a ball
On TU.27.AUG we played the 6,034 yd (whites) Ranch Course 46/43... we think we got a few extra yds ~altitude~ but the bourbon hangover definitely played a role. Gorgeous, challenging course, but compared to the River Course's unique design, was pretty straight forward "there's the pin, take dead aim and go for it."

thumbnail (1).jpg

Did that River Course thing on WED... holy shit what a difference from the Ranch Course's "traditional design"... the River Course throws multiple/massive elevation changes, variable bunkers everywhere, water-lots of water and nasty slippery greens at you... every hole gives you a good chance to screw up (picture, below, sure doesn't look very intimidating, does it)... 43/43... very happy with that

thumbnail.jpg

LOL... our view of the River's 563-yd 5th hole's midpoint... was great fun watching one hacker after another inseminate the OB rushes with their Calloway Warbirds.

thumbnail (4).jpg

great fun trip... good prelude to North Carolina in two weeks.

on a whim, we drove 175 miles north to play The Nightmare yesterday... was a peacock blocking the road just inside the entrance... wtf?... starter said "he's a horny old dude, chases all the local female turkeys and visiting geese; boss is too cheap to buy him a hen." one wonders what the bird does when Michigan tosses a -20° winter blizzard party.

NC... now,
Mr. Penick, he say "seasoned citizens" like me should devote at least 75% of their practice time to the short game...
I think Mr. Penick would probably suggest that I (in light of our upcoming dances on Strantz floors) push that 75% to 100%.

Had a tap in birdie.. can't remember the last time I had a gimme bird if ever. That was fun. But I followed it up with a triple, double and a 3 putt bogey for a 45.. which is about average for me .. should have been so much better but that's what I get for thinking about my score.

Had another leaked out close yesterday. Fuck! Playing so well this year but still having trouble staying out of my own way.

I was standing on the 13th tee at +5 yesterday having just made a nice par on our tough #12. Then, bogey, bogey, bogey, bogey, nothing terrible but just sloppy play.....shit, now I need par par to break 80. Tensed up on a simple chip and bogeyed #17 to go to plus 10. Now I need bird on 18. Piped a nice one into the teeth of a stiff breeze. Hit the middle of the green and saw the bird slide by for another 80.

Shit.

80's a good score but it ain't in the 70s!

Still working on getting some distance. I don't have much if any shaft lean at address. Feels really awkward. Saw a video where the guy said lay the club down behind the ball with the amount of lean you want, then grip the club....BOOM...I usually hit my 9 iron about 120 yards if I hit it clean, yesterday I was hitting it about 145...I won't mention the helping breeze. Felt like I was in my 40's again. We'll see if it carries over today.
