Had my finest ball striking round that I can remember on Wednesday. Putting was terrible and I still carded a 38/41 for a 79. Hit 11 greens and missed two fairways all day.

Playing Berkshire Hills CC in Pittsfield MA this morning. A really nice Tillinghast design.

Pretty much the same thing at Berkshire Hills yesterday.

Had an epic finish. It's a par 72 so you only get 7 strokes to break 80. Really hit the ball well and sucked with the putter so I'm on the 17th tee at +7. I need par par to finally break my PB of 80. On the tricky par three I hit a perfect 8 iron to inside three feet! Now I'll have a cushion on 18.....missed the fucking thing. Cripes.

So I go to the par 5 18th needing par but I'm rattled and pissed and pretty certain I'm gonna bogey for another fucking 80. Well what do you know, knocked it to 8ft and made the bird for a +6 78.

Very pleased to not shit the bed.

Anyone here every played Bethpage Black? Going to try and sneak on as a single this Friday.
So here’s the recap.

Woke up at 415am. Was out of the hotel just before 500 and to the course at 540. This got me an 1140 tee time.

Hit up the pro shop which looked like every mini shop you’ve ever been to. Really disappointing.

Drove about 5 min away and had a nice breakfast. Came back to course, set up at the bar, and caught up on some more for a couple hours. Then the range, putting green, and a little relaxing before my time was called. Was paired with 3 local guys who had played there a bunch before. Surprisingly a lot of fun.

Decided to get the full experience and played from the tips. 7700 yards. 77.8 rating.

This is one of the more punishing courses I’ve ever played. Making par required ALL really good shots. My only saving grace was that I was hitting the driver really well all done (except for a two hole stretch on the back). Even averaging 280 off the tee I still was hitting almost all 5 and 6 irons into greens on Par 4s.

Would love to go back and play from the whites to get a little more skill appropriate feel for the course.

dropped four 25-40' putts... hit every fairway... 7-wood put me on the green every attempt... golf was actually kinda fun today; almost everything just felt right... almost everything - was still plenty of vulgarities.

and... there will be at least 20 duffs (four H2S brothers, friends and family) participating in the 2024 Chilkoot Open, Keystone, CO in late August. We'll be playing both the Ranch and River Courses. I'm excited about the Ranch run - was designed by RTJ jr. Last year's inaugural Open was held at Pinehurst, NC.

I decided to drive out/back from Michigan on I-80... looking to play Meadowlark Hills, Kearney, NEB on the way out... and... TPC Deere Run, Silvis, ILL on the way home... both courses conveniently located right off the expressway, kinda.
Was another course in far ne NEB Tatanka Golf Club | Niobrara Golf Courses | NE Public Golf that was intriguing but too far off to work this trip.

played a new course in NY state over the weekend...Hudson Hills in Ossining

tough ass course....and I just couldn't find my swing off the tee...or get the speed of the greens down...they were faaaaast.

luckily we were paired with a father and son who knew the course and acted as our guides...otherwise we'd have been boned.

Made a 7:15am time at the TPC on Friday, 23.AUG... in Omaha at Tiburon GC 10:00am Saturday, 24.AUG... and in Kearney at Meadowlark Hills 9:15am Sunday, 25.AUG... lol... might's well enjoy driving those crappy states with my crappy driving.

Also, learned that Dismal River GC and Sand Hills GC, both private, nonetheless "invite" non-members to visit, stay and play... maybe next year.

Congratulations!

I've been playing well this summer and have amassed my greatest stats ever at age 63. I've now shot sub 80 six times on three different private golf courses. I usually only do it a couple/few times a year at my home course.

v'jerked-off this stupid game my whole long life (dude, at 63 you're just a pup)... played at it and with it, that is... never really took it seriously...
shit, for the last 25 years I've preferred playing "Clinton Rules" - unlimited mulligans except on the greens... but
my 'another damn par' crowd frowns on mulligans, so now I have to play by the book... and
fuck me, I've actually improved a little.
go figger.

speaking of, I believe much of my improvement is due to your, @foster4prez and others' here postings, pictures, advice and experiences.

Tommy & Jeff just got in from Arizona for their annual golf vacation... my local crowd plays Rattle Run GC ( Course Tour - Rattle Run Golf Club ) this Tuesday... turns out RR is Tommy's favorite local course, as he made times there for WED, THU and FRI. jebus. Next week we're all doing The Legend @ Shanty Creek, Sundance @ A-Ga-Ming, Hawk's Eye @ Shanty Creek and The Nightmare @ West Branch... pretty freaking incredible August for golf.

and @foster4prez ? I didn't get to Tobacco Road last year... planning on doing it 2X in late September with my New Bern brother. s'funny, all the wonderful courses I've gotten to play this year... and the one I'm most excited about is likely to rip my ego out and shred it.

TR is great. Don't take it too seriously and play within yourself and the course. Strantz always gives you an out. Take it.

Decided to give the new shoulders a test and go off the whites. Bad decision, the white tees were moved back to within a couple yards from the blues. I was swinging harder even though I know better, the results were not good.

Nice touch, thanks.

got a quote last night from Tobacco Road Golf & Travel for Tobacco Road, then Tot Hill Farm, then back to Tobacco Road in mid-September. Understand Strantz has a strong NC following... looking forward to it.

Also... Dormie Club... interesting... seems that shared club concept is managed out of Nebraska. Nebraska? Wondering if it's the same group as run Dismal River and Sand Hills... all of which might be just a bit too exclusive for my plebeian means.

Dormie Club is absolutely an elite experience. I've done it a few times since I moved down here and can't recommend it enough. Gorgeous Coore & Crenshaw course, great food, and better hospitality. It's impossible to not have a blast there.

I'm doing Tot Hill at the end of August for the second time.

We didn't get out on TU due to 2+ inches of ongoing rainfall...
We did get out today... front nine was closed due to 4 entire holes pretty much being submerged, so we ran the back nine twice.
The Arizona boys loved it... all that water... so lush and green. They were not so enamored with the swarms of mosquitos.
We had several nice pitches land and bury themselves in the saturated greens... was a fun day.
Hoping to squish through the front nine tomorrow and Friday.

Locked in Tobacco Road/Tot Hill Farm/Tobacco Road trip mid-September.

Rattle Run GC now has a new name: Mud Flats GC
the front nine fairway lakes have pretty much drained, but enough river silt remained to make large expanses of "muck" that you really don't want to mess with... so of course I (not by intent) messed with them... caught two of the damn things, left my ball in the center of one (at least I think that bump out there was my ball)... shot a very sloppy 46/43... strange days at the links, for sure.

but great fun too, so...
