Golf trip to Myrtle this week with my dad and a bunch of his buddies. Playing a bunch of the Barefoot courses. Then have Charlotte Country Club next week. Solid week of golf.

Redlands Mesa GC, Grand Junction. Hit 42/42... wildly fun place, if when you hit an OB, hope it bounces off a boulder back onto the fairway - don't go poking around under rocks and stuff looking to hawk or locate the OB (something about rattlesnakes.)

I'll be in Myrtle Beach next week, but no golf for me.

I'm finally ready to play again!

My club has an allied tournament this weekend so me and my buds got a reciprocol at another nice private club for Saturday.

Clogging Finals at the Grand Ole Calabash?
At least take your six iron for protection and shit.

Add Beach Music and Natty Lights for a perfect Strand Vacay.

Played very well yesterday. We got a reciprocal at The Country Club of Pittsfield.

I was +2 through 11 and of course took a double and a few bogeys coming in but managed to break 80 with a 78 on the par 71 course. Weird holes with tremendous elevation changes but a pricey private club with impeccable conditioning. My fucking leg was killing me but I managed to play very solidly.

Oh, the bogey on 18 wasn't because of poor play. It's a blind drive over the hill and in the middle right center of the fairway just 220 out is a large bunker. Piped a nice drive down the middle to find myself on the beach. Cripes....3 wood next time.

Here's that bunker in the front right of this pic. It's practically in the center of the fairway.

did that spontaneous "let's do that golf thing" today with a bud...
rebuffed at two local -very busy- tracks, settled for an 18-hole goat ranch...
soggy fairways, mangey bumpy greens, had to slide by an 8-pack of stoned teens in 4 carts, fucking poison ivy is already sprouting...
otoh, was a stellar weather day, we played blues, 6000yd run, shot 40/42 with 38 gddam putts... 38... jebus that sucked!
all n all tho, good times.
golf.

Still on fire!

Subbed in the league last night. We play 12 holes with skins. Birdied the 12th we started on for a skin that held up and shot +1 for the round.

I've made some significant swing changes that are working but these past two rounds have just been nutz.....I'll come crashing back to earth soon but holy smokes I'm playing well right now.

Playing like shit...decided to replace the other shoulder as soon as possible. (June 10)

No sense trying to play through the pain, can't play well if you can't finish your swing.

Oh man, so sorry for you. What a drag.

My leg seems to be slowly getting better. Subbing in the league tonight. Cripes, I haven't played since last Tuesday.

Been really working on getting used to the NC sandhill bermuda game. So different that what I am used to. Short game has been a tough shift. Constantly alternating between just putting anywhere around the greens to recognizing that I've got to practice my tight lie wedges. Tough to be willing to take the bad shots in the short term over the game improvement. And I don't get enough time to build in real practice sessions.

Anyways, last couple of rounds recap. Three rounds are Barefoot (Love/Fazio/Norman) in Myrtle. Norman was the highlight designer. Fazio was generic AF. Then split over to Charlotte for a work function and got on Charlotte Country Club. Four rounds and all in the low 80s. Handicap now up to a 8. HIghest (and realest) it's been in years.

45/39.. with 2 birds in a row on the back. One was almost a hole in one. 7 iron 1-hopped into the flag and back to a foot away and the other was a chip in from just off the back fringe. It was a very good day for me. I left the driver at home and used my callaway hot 2x 4 wood off the tee. I can't hit it > 200 yards but I kept it in play and it's only 6000 yards which is really all the course I need right now.

Hmmmm, should I start with the excuses? Lol!

So my buddy's back from Cali, got in late Thursday night and we stayed up drinkin' and puffin' till 2:30. I had done a shot ton of yard work the whole day so I'm gonna blame that.

Bogied 1 then tripple, tripple. Fuck! I've never been on my 4th tee at +7. Righted the ship a bit but man was I sloppy all day. 46 43 - 89.

played a 6,600-yd track today (blue tees... blacks ran 6,900-yds) with a middle-aged couple from the Philippines... she was kind and sweet, but tigerish in her game; actually a real pleasure to play with... he, like my bud, was scratch... so the two of them complained all day missing birdies ("nuts, another damn par"). lol, she & I both had two chip-ins and two birds each. Finished the day 43/46... am happy with that.

So here's my take aways.

1) I think I am legitimately getting worse at golf. I don't know if that'd just because I am playing tougher course at longer tees but its starting to get frustrating. I literally went 43-43-86 at both courses with more than my fair share of doubles. The desert is a bitch.

2) The front nine of TPC Scottsdale is entirely forgettable. Paying >$350 for one exciting nine is dumb. I wouldn't do it again.

3.) Big tournament course seem so much different without the stands in place. So much more room around the greens especially. I would have saved 3 or 4 strokes from free drops from stands at TPC.

4) Ak Chin is the definition of a hidden gem. At $55 it was without a doubt the best value course I have ever played. We lined up with the Southwest PGA Tournament and the greens and pin placements were brutal. Link below has their scores. I'm happy to say I wouldnt have been last. If I come back to Phoenix, I will 1000% play Ak Chin again. So much fun.

15 at TPC. Not sure how anyone has the length to go for this island green in two. 4 iron - 7 iron - pitch with a lob wedge.IMG_2663.jpg

TPC #16 - Stadium Hole. Wildly different without the stands. Felt a lot like 17 at Sawgrass.

Ak Chin. I spent way too much time in the bunkers.

46/43-89 on a hillside course overlooking Otisco lake. I'd forgotten what it's like playing on that sort of layout. I learned the game on a similar course but that was decades ago. Everything runs toward the lake no matter what you think you see and I had several 3-putts.

But I'm very happy with the way my game has come around this year after 5 years away from it and my chipping and pitching is better than ever for some reason. I've been concentrating on soft hands. I've always had a tendency to grip the club too tightly. I need to pick up a driver though. Using my 4 wood off the tee, anything >= 400 is unreachable in 2.

Playing Marysville GC on Saturday... The Dream GC on Sunday... The Nightmare GC on Monday... and, lol, Holly Meadows GC on Tuesday. Marysville is a fun, somewhat challenging local course that should be a nice prelude to the Dream and Nightmare courses (silly ass names but wonderful, lush and demanding runs.) Holly Meadows' bar girl is stacked to the rafters... the course is a goat ranch but nobody cares.

Hit from the blues today... 6,560 yards... 40/38 on 72 par... just a couple of 3-putts; no swimmers or lost balls... hit every fairway...
still, for so early in the season, all that tedious practice all winter seems to be paying off.
Also, I bought a 54° SW a couple of months ago, now use it almost every hole within 60 yards.
