There is a lot of football leading up to that one play, but in Romo's case, that play would have won the game, and Romo botched it. Yes, if Dallas had played better as a team, they could have been up by 20 and it wouldn't have been the situation, but shit happens. They were in a position to win, and in Romo's case, he cost them the game.

Couple things to note about the Seattle game...the FG would have tied the game, not won it. There was still lots of time left on the clock. Romo had one more drive after that and the game ended with a hail Mary that fell right in front of Terry Glenn. Now don't get me wrong, I blame Romo more than anyone, but the game wasn't as cut and dry as history has made it out to be. It's remembered as a GW FG attempt as time expires.

He doesn't bobble the snap...it still could have sailed wide...could have been blocked...we'll never know.

Yes, a chance to tie up that game...but...when it comes down to 1 play...that tells me that the team failed earlier in the game to capitalize on other opportunities, that's what I'm getting at.

Anyway...I think Romo is a good QB. Though, his penchant for throwing ill-timed INT's or fumbles with the "game on the line" doesn't bode well for his image.

The problem with some of the stats stated before hand is that none of them take into consideration just those drives/plays where the game is on the line. They are accumulative, where as a "winning" play at the end of the game isn't accumulative, but secular in nature.

I'm neither a supporter or hater of Romo, but from the outside looking it....he's a very good QB statistically, but when the game is on the line (playoffs or otherwise) he wouldn't be in my top 5 or even top 10 of QB's I would want behind center. Sometimes, sports just have those "oddities". Why one pitcher dominates another team. Why certain guys have great games against certain defenses...why some QB's always seem to clunk when the game is "on the line". Unfortunately for Romo...he's falling into that category. It may not be his fault that the team has to rely on him to "win" the game with one secular drive, but the fact that he has several highlighted fails......

I agree that one play can cost you the game. Down 1 point with 5 seconds left. Perfect snap and a kicker misses a 25 yard FG wide right. No matter what happened prior to that play, when it came down to it, that one play was going to win or lose you the game. So, that play in essence did the cost the team the win.

HOWEVER, the OUTCOME of the game cannot be BLAMED on the kicker.

Two distinct points people tend to mix up.

Some fair points, but you can't just say, "take away player x's SB year and he sucks. Duh. Take away Roethlisberger's SB years too. Let's take away Montana's championship years and he was terrible. Sorry, Brees proved himself in the playoffs. Rodgers did the same last year. If Romo does something in the playoffs, he's exempt from playoff choke artist references. Until then, he's a playoff turd.

LOL @ putting Brees in there. Ever looked at his playoff record? He has had ONE year in the playoffs that he won anything. It took him how long to finally get into the playoffs and win? Looks kinda like Romo's record in the playoffs, except Tony hasn't had that "one year" yet.

Very good point and I agree completely. One play can lose a game but one play didn't get you into those circumstances.

All it takes is one year. Look at Peyton Manning. Take that year out and he is still teh guy who can't win the big game. Same with Elway, Same with Brees. But they had that year. When Romo does this stigma will leave, but until it does it's there and rightfully so.

I agree. I have never thought one play can win or lose a game for you. There are 60 minutes of bounces, twists, and turns that add up to who wins.

rightfully so. But I don't get the "overrated" comments. Sure he is a media darling because he is on a media darling team, but he normally isn't rated that high. He is always on the fringe of "top 10" talks and he has the choker label. So it confuses me when people say that they hate him because he is overrated.

He is overrated by fans of Dallas, and also when I hear Romo talked about it's usually fringe top 5. I'd take Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Manning, Rivers, Vick all over him easily. And cases could be made to take Rothlisburger, Ryan, Stafford, Eli over him. Maybe even Freman.

Most Dallas fans are harder on Romo then the rest of the country. Also, taking Ryan, Stafford, El or Freeman over him is ridiculous.

Tubbs likes to make up his own facts sometimes. In effect, the whole word (media, fans, players, etc) all say/do what he wants them to have said/done, whether its true or not.

I live in Dallas. Sure there are some "Romosexuals" as they're called, but for the most part Dallas fans and talk radio absolutely crush Romo everytime he makes a mistake. It was ridiculous after the Jets loss. You wouldn't believe how many Cowboys i heard calling for Kitna to start.

Haha. The troll likes to make fun of the people who have intelligent conversation. I've had many conversation on Dallas boards and heard them say Romo is a top 5 QB. Also Eli has won his big game, and as for the other 3 I said cases could be made.

Because Romo basically lost that game for them. How bad was he?

well, if the dallas ol doesn't improve, they will see Kitna start. I'll root for Jon to do better than he can actually do. Despite a lack of talent, he never seems to go away. Maybe one day he'll have his Rich Gannon moment. probably not, but like the Bengals actually winning some day, however unlikely, it would be nice to see.

fify

As for your list, Vick and Rivers haven't done anything more than Romo, I guess Freeman because he is younger, same with Ryan and Stafford.

And I guess there has never been a fan from any other team make a stupid comment about their QB? Do you call ALL of those fanbases lovers of their QB?

And Romo missed the block that allowed the punt to be blocked? Romo didn't run over the tiny safety to force his way into the endzone?
