I don't think it's about hostages. See post 435.

Only way a deal gets done before June 2 is if the Jets offer something to compensate the Pack for not being able to spread the cap hit.

And they might. Might be a question of eating a few million more to get Rodgers in faster.
Gb wants draft capital this year

Exactly. The Packers are the ones running out of time. 4 days now.
People keep acting like a 59 million bonus (not cap hit, actual money to Rodgers) is just funsy money.... Even for NFL that s good Chunk change to pay for a guy you don't want back

Just a reminder that the 'June 1' date isn't actually June 1. It's in May just after the Draft finishes. The Jets should be in no rush now. I think the Packers have to pay the bonus and have the Jets compensate them with future Draft picks. That's the only way to avoid a March 2023 cap violation. Having to manage a huge dead money acceleration in 2024 is going to be a problem for the Packers.

Later edit: Alternatively Rodgers has to consent to the contract language being altered, and the league has to turn a blind eye to it.

The Jets definitely caved with that comp pick but gambling on that pick being mid to late 20s makes sense. If Wilson sits on the bench for 2 years he may actually be able to develop and they'll be setup nicely.

Likely use this year's first on oline, their D is top notch. On paper they're a contender.

Yeah, I'm surprised it's not tied to him coming back next year and/or getting to SB.....

But there were GB fans thinking they'd get 2 firsts for him.
