I disagree Debbie, 3 Dog Night had three #1 hits and eleven top 10 hits. They also had 21 top 40 hits over a span of seven years.I would say that Martha and the Vandellas, as one of the very early girl groups, was far more influential.
3 Dog Night was just along for the ride, and I think they let too many also-ran groups into the HOF.
Gram Parsons was a short term member in the Byrds and had more of an impact with Flying Burrito Brothers. The original Byrds lineup of McGuinn, Crosby, Hillman and Clark was their best.Marshall Tucker Band
Flying Burrito Brothers(they were short lived, but highly influential, and they snubbed Gram Parsons when he wasn't inducted as a member of the Byrds)
GG Allin(much like Pete Rose, you never want to give him a platform to speak, but he's long dead)
Judas Priest

Yes they did mostly Dylan covers but had a very unique sound which was the beginning of folk rock. Roger McGuinn's mastery of the 12 string Rickenbacker was the driving sound behind their music. They were pretty much a Bob Dylan cover band before Parsons. There's a reason Hillman followed Parsons to FBB.

Yes that was a much acclaimed album but Parson's drug habit made him a short term member of the Byrds. Too bad because he had a lot of talent. And then Parsons came along and they pretty well kickstarted the country-rock era with Sweetheart of the Rodeo.
LOL Priest got snubbed last year for LL Cool J and Bon Fucking Jovi. That pretty much tells you all you need to know about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.I don't believe Dio or Judas Priest are in, which is complete BS IMO.

Hillman and Parsons both had country music backgrounds so it was a good fit for both of them. The Flying Burrito Brothers were good but not on a par with The Byrds in my opinion.Reckon why Hillman was a founding member of the Flying Burrito Brothers along with Parsons?
