MLB is dying a slow death. I work in the Restaurant industry with plenty of 17-29 year old males. None of them follow baseball. I'm in two fantasy football leagues with 20 adult guys, maybe 3 have a favorite baseball team. People just don't care about baseball anymore. We all know some of the potential reasons for this:

Lots of other sports or entertainment choices
Disgusted by the amounts of money they make
An entitlement that rubs fans the wrong way
The evolution of the bullpen and how it changed the game for the worst( starters only going 5 innings for example)
Steroids and other cheating scandals

But even if none of those are the reasons, sometimes a society just changes what it likes. Things don't always stay the same. Baseball was perfect for America from the late 1800's for 120 years till 2000, but I feel like times are always changing and we are starting to see the fading of interest of what used to be our national pastime. I wonder if 20 years from now MLB will even exist.

i haven't played fantasy baseball in about 5 years. I probably couldn't tell you 60% of the players right now.

yup.

same.

i will boycott. theres other shit to do.
Baseball was going to be the one sport I'd still watch. Not anymore.

NBA and NFL? Waaaaaaay over those. In active boycott mode. Getting close with baseball. I guess I'll be forever stuck in the past because I sure did love it.

Think this could be the death knell for baseball?

no doubt, if they cancel the season, they will lose fans just like in the 90's.

it's really stupid that they can't come to an agreement over a fucking sport where they are all making millions.

the more people make the harder it is... Players are wealthy enough to fight on principle, because they don't necessary NEED the money any more...

And the owners never care about the sport itself anyway... they don't make their millions by owning a sports team... they only care that the team is profitable...

I don't think owners even care that the sport is on its way to die...

Well, you'd be wrong about that. Conversely, I know the players don't care if the sport lives or dies.

that's foolish... of course the players care... its their livelihood... all they are asking for is to get paid... It is them taking all the risk, and it is their families that are sacrificing more than ever before...

If the sport does die... all 30 owners are going to be top 1% still... and they wont lose much money by not playing baseball...

You guys are looking at this all wrong. From my perspective, it’s the first week in June and the Giants are tied for first place. At this rate, they’ll still be in first in September. Best season they’ve had in at least five years.
If it were a 162-game season I wonder how many games the Giants would lose this year? A record-setter maybe?

MLB completely dropped the ball. They had a shot to renew their image and their interest. Could have used it too after the egg on their face of how the handled the Astros and Red Sox situation. MLB could have been America's sport again, rising up from the virus and putting out a product for us all to watch and enjoy together.

Instead, they remained silent and invisible.
