as do i.

but at some point, the optics are what they are. other sports move on to plans to play, while rich guys argue with rich guys over money.
8 teams worth of NBA guys are getting full pay to not play again this year.

Right?

Makes basketball returning a little easier.

Very disappointing if they can work a deal to play at least 60 games. Baseball is America's pastime but they are looking like complete pussies at the moment. Good luck with ratings in the future if you choose to abandon this season.

Hasn't really been America's pastime for a while. Probably the #3 sport now. And falling fast. Oh well.

MLB is dying a slow death. I work in the Restaurant industry with plenty of 17-29 year old males. None of them follow baseball. I'm in two fantasy football leagues with 20 adult guys, maybe 3 have a favorite baseball team. People just don't care about baseball anymore. We all know some of the potential reasons for this:

Lots of other sports or entertainment choices
Disgusted by the amounts of money they make
An entitlement that rubs fans the wrong way
The evolution of the bullpen and how it changed the game for the worst( starters only going 5 innings for example)
Steroids and other cheating scandals

But even if none of those are the reasons, sometimes a society just changes what it likes. Things don't always stay the same. Baseball was perfect for America from the late 1800's for 120 years till 2000, but I feel like times are always changing and we are starting to see the fading of interest of what used to be our national pastime. I wonder if 20 years from now MLB will even exist.

Of course it will exist, but it will probably start contracting, with a few teams going away. It will always be there, diminished. Like boxing.

Too tired to go looting. Plus, what is there to loot in Cleveland?

Sox suck less than your team. Fact.

The saddest thing is, just when they were ready to be competitive...

At least they had one to throw. Indians would blow a hobo for a pint of vodka to get to a WS and have the chance of winning it. My God, the Cubs?! For shame!!!

Cubs and Sox got rings fairly recently. Indians....now the longest drought, 1948

Enough of the gloom and doom. The same things were said during the various MLB strikes.

Once play starts, fans will be back in droves.

Took a LOOOOONG time for fans to come back after 1994, basically took the roided up McGwire/Sosa show.

And today the competition from other sports, the internet, etc is much tougher.

No, as the guy above said, things change. They rise and fall. It will be slow, and baseball will always be around, but it is in decline, and now accelerated.

I was pulling for the Indians in 2016 due to my petty anti-Cubs immature spite.

Me too, for sure. Although I am glad we don't have to hear about those poor widdle wuvable losers anymore.

As a Giants fan, I'm glad the Astros cheated to beat the Dodgers.

like i said, its the optics tho. the league/owners/players are all collectively fucking themselves out of a golden opportunity.
