Id say he was drafted to be a LT.....Much Like Rieff was.....I'd say Balitmore is getting more then we are until I see Reiff at LT and doing the same thing as Oher.

KVB was the Lions best pass rushing specialist the last three years?

The overwhelming majority of teams put their best pass rusher on the right side -- Here are a few:
DeMarcus Ware -- Dallas
Michael Johnson -- Cincy
Julius Peppers -- Chicago
Charles Johnson -- Carolina
Elvis Dumervil -- Baltimore
Osi Umenyora -- Atlanta
Clay Matthews -- Green Bay
Tamba Hali -- Kansas City
Jared Allen -- Minnesota
Chandler Jones -- New England
Jason Pierre Paul -- NYG
Aldon Smith -- SF

These are just the household name studs who play on the right side. After the draft -- there will be a few others drafted in the 1st round who will also be playing on the right side.

Dion Jordan -- Miami
Ziggy Ansah -- Detroit
Jarvis Jones -- Pittsburgh

So yes -- the LT is going to face the best pass rushing specialists in the majority of the games.

Safe answer muzz, well done. You're getting close to half of the league Mike, good work. But I think you can do better.

He was probably our most complete DE. He didn't have the speed of Avril but he was more stout against the run. And he had some power to bull rush guys unlike Avril. Plus LTs are more athletic then RTs. I doubt Avril would be able to consistently get pass LTs.

I just put up the household names -- if you'd like me to list the entire league, i can. It is common knowledge that teams usually put there best pass rusher on the right side, as it is the blind side for the QB.

It isn't as if I'm making this up.

Well, this a Lions board, and the Lions don't do it. So common knowledge or not, you're O for 1 off the bat. Plus you listed two guys who were on the same team
Last year. I'd like a little more factual evidence in defense of you blanket statement. Rookies don't count btw.

We're not discussing best overall DEs Shadow. I believe the term used was " pass rush specialists". Because, IMO, Cliff Avril fucking sucks!

Clay Matthews does not line up primarily on the right side. That dude moves all over the place. Incorrect on that one.

I see there is no shortage of long winded posts on here from the usual suspects.

From Roto -

Coach Andy Reid said that if Branden Albert is still on the roster come Week 1, he will play left tackle and No. 1 pick Eric Fisher will play right tackle.

Uh oh fans. Sounds like Fisher isn't good enough to beat out Albert at LT. Better move him to Guard!

Here you go Smitty -- an explanation for you on the difference between RT and LT.

The most asked question is why is such a big deal being made over left tackle?

Quite simply, though the center is considered the "rock" of the line and usually calls the blocking schemes and provides the stop for the shortest distance to the QB, the left tackle usually has the hardest job to do game in and game out.

Why?

Defenses put their best pass rusher lined up on the offensive left side.

Why?

It's usually the "blind side" of the QB's vision and many times he never sees them coming. This allows not only for sacks, but fumbles and tipped balls. It's so easy to slap a ball out of a QB's hands when he's drawn back to throw.

So why not put the best rusher against the right tackle if he's not as suited to stop him?

Because they QB can see him coming and can either roll away or step up the pocket to avoid him. By coming from the blind side, if the pass rusher beats the left tackle, it's usually disastrous for the QB who usually sees it too late to avoid a bad outcome.

Since the best pass rusher is also usually not just a strong guy, but the fastest pass rusher to boot, the left tackle has to have that quick initial surge to keep from being either blown by or circled.

So just being a big strong heavy roadblock is nowhere close to being enough of a resume to stopping a tall fast pass rusher. He has to be fast himself, usually faster than most right tackles are.

Yeah he may be labeled as a ROLB, but he lines up everywhere. If u can't see that with your own eyes, then there's no hope. Doesn't matter what he's officially labeled.
