Richard Sherman Says Calling Someone a Thug Is the Same as Calling Someone the N-Word

From USA Today, "Richard Sherman equates being called a 'thug' to a racial slur":

In the press conference, Sherman said he was sorry the interview had taken attention away from his teammates, but he also said he didn’t believe the response to it was warranted, especially people who labeled him a "thug" after the interview. He also said he believed "thug" is now an "accepted way of calling somebody the n word."

I will say this. I'm as big a sherman supporter there is but if sherman wants people to stop seeing the comptom image of him as a person he should start displaying his stanford side more.

All of us seahawk fans and anyone who has followed sherman has seen it and know what kind of person sherman is. Its just unfortunate that the two times he's been on national media (first take and the erin andrews interview) he has chosen to show his other side

This guy is not a gangbanger who commited many crimes and have been arrested several times. He is far from a thug.

Almost everyone. When you have people on different forums calling for example an NBA player a thug because he commits a flagrant foul here and there a thug you have no idea what a thug is.

Good point. Stanford is one of the better schools in the country - especially when it comes to law. He needs to display more of that education and less of WWE.

Funny thing is.....I told my buddy at work today the same thing, before even reading that Sherman said this.

Not often, but when they do it's usually said "acting" like a thug. Kind of like when a white guy gets labeled a w-igger

I'm sure they're just using it as a figure of speech. I think most people know what a thug is. And the word thug doesn't just represent blacks.

Since the most powerful "thugs" in America are white, for instance Whitey Bulger, Domenico Cefalu and the list goes on.

Hockey teams are almost all white and they have thugs everywhere.

Also mafia members have been called thugs for over 100 years and many of them were white.
