There is talk at the Combine the Patriots are looking at Andy Dalton if Brady leaves.
I mentioned this elsewhere but if TB leave then yeah bring a vet for two years and take a QB later this year round 4 +

The absolute only way I would consider Dalton would be if the Bengals cut him and he came in at backup money. And even then I’d be decidedly un-psyched about it.

Trading an asset and picking up the last year of his deal? That’s a hard no. I’d take my chances with Stidham and Kessler.

and if TB does go, no Dalton what a freakin joke that would be. Hell in that case BB roll the dice and trade with the Giants for there spot in the draft since they are saying they are open for discussions for that pick. I know that is a dream that wouldn't happen but Dalton you have to be kidding.

Trading who or what? If he is cut he could take a new deal if his current contract is an issue.

And I too would be okay with throwing Stidham in.

This is exactly what was discussed last year when he signed his no tag clause contract. It was due to a new CBA, not his desire to play elsewhere.

also a concession to the fact that by lowering his cap number for 2019 he was reducing the amount he could make on the tag in 2020

I wouldn’t think the CBA changes that have reportedly been discussed would have much impact on a new Brady deal getting done one way or the other, though.

This is latest Cap Info I could find:

OTC Advanced:

New England Patriots
Top Executive: Bill Belichick, Head Coach (since 2000)
Total Cap Liabilities: $169,410,987
  • Top 51: $158,811,663
  • Team Cap Space: $41,659,589
  • Offense: $74,857,026
  • Defense: $79,970,450
  • Special: $6,535,020

The Franchise numbers were released and Thuney would be $16.2M, Van Noy would be $16.2M and McCourty would be $12.7M. You know that most of these guys use the Franchise number as the base when trying to get a contract with another team. That being said, I don't think any of these three will be back in 2020.

I think that the money and terms that other teams will offer Brady will be a real factor as well as that team being able to compete for the Super Bowl. Looking at what teams have and what they appear to be willing to offer, I'm really leaning toward Tampa Bay. Weather, Arians supposedly willing to make whatever adjustments that Brady requires, Weapons and protection just seems too good to pass up.

Interesting that they could field a competitive team for 20 straight years and still be able to afford Brady and now suddenly, they cant.

Are You telling me that for the first time in 21 years, the planets aren't lining up for the Pats or is something more, deeper afoot here.

Brady has always taken an extended contract and only three times was he either the highest paid or top three. The cost of paying players today, especially free agents is becoming extremely difficult unless you've cleaned the cupboard. ie: Miami Dolphins.

If you do that, you've gotten rid of most of your top level players to get draft picks and cap space. You best know what the hell you're doing when the draft and free agency roll around or the team will be in the toilet trap for a long time.

If you look at the Patriots roster, the top paid player right now is Stephon Gilmore followed by Hightower and then Edelman. Then there is a run of 20 or so guys between $3M and $7M. Then another bunch all between $500K and $2M. The result is a cap apace of $41M. If you pay Brady $30M, you can't afford to protect him or buy him a new target.

In my common sense opinion......let him walk. Give Stidham the job and find the pieces to protect him and draft as good a QB as you can. Fill as many defensive holes as inexpensively as possible and start moving toward the future. Can't live in the past.

Agree. If Brady isn't in NE it's because either one side or both sides didn't want him there. It will have almost nothing to do with money IMO.

I don't really care either way though judging by the hundred articles written about it every day if Brady does sign somewhere else it's going to be Brady all day every day until god knows when in the media.

It would be interesting to know what the Pats would be willing to pony up to get Patrick Mahomes for the 2020 season if for some crazy reason he suddenly demanded a trade out of KC. A crazy hypothetical I know but I'd love to know what value BB would put on Mahomes in comparison to Brady.

Dalton will play for a sausage sandwich and a lite beer. Hopefully, he signs elsewhere for a steak and cheese and a Corona lite. and
