Injuries have definately made things worse over the course of the season when you are bringing in Practice Squad and preseason waived players to start but some of these issues were there even at the start of the season.
Not having Garcon makes a surprising difference. he frees up the other guys. Against the Giants there was way to much reliance on Kittle. Once they made an effort to get Goodwin involved it improved some but missing Garcon was the difference in the offense scoring field goals instead of touchdowns.

The offense did enough to win last week but the defense let them down again. At least there is some improvement on offense. The running game has really developed. The oline has come together. The defense has regressed.

Which is where you'd think the most improvement would've came from. The D-line is obviously disappointing, but other players we thought would excel (Foster, Colbert, and Witherspoon) this season, haven't. Since injuries have played a role, you'd have thought they'd 'flash' more when they did play?

Not even attempting to improve the pass rush in the draft has hurt the defense a lot.

Lynch will likely be in position to draft one of the best prospects, obviously it is a must.

We all knew this would be an issue this season, but i didn't think it would've remained this bad?! I thought it would take a small step up because of the talent we drafted along the line. Armstead hardly played up to that point, so thought he'd add more. Thomas was no longer a rookie, so thought he'd contribute more. Oh well......

SF currently has the #1 spot in the draft. A lot still left to be decided....

Yep, the Raiders won't win another game looking at their schedule. The 49ers will win another game, likely the next one.

But the 49ers will still have a top pick, high enough for an every down LEO.

Thomas had "bust" written all over him from the get go. He has college level talent and even then what success he had was a product of the Stanford system.

I haven't looked at either schedules...honestly I don't care. As you say, they are guaranteed to get almost any pick of the pass rushers. I still want Bosa, but the more I read about Josh Allen and that Polite kid.....the more it seems SF can't lose (unless they bomb as pros)

Honestly I'm not sure they beat Tampa or Denver and If they do finish with the top pick I think I would prefer a trade back to someone looking for a QB and get one of the top pass rushers probably not Bosa but the ability to potentially add 4 starters from the first three rounds would be too much to pass up.

No more trading back. Grab Bosa and spend that 78 mil in cap space they'll have on some quality free agents. Perhaps a receiver and a DB

If SF ends up with the top pick and trades back, they better get a boatload more than 4 picks in the first three rounds. I'd only be in favour if something like that occurs.....multiple #1's and #2's and....just completely gut some team. If Bosa is the blue chip prospect I've read about, and plays a position second in importance only to QB, yah gotta just turn in the card if something like that falls into your lap.

Yep, I don't see trading back unless there we get something good in return. Not sure what the climate for that is this year with this looking like a weak quarterback class. Not betting on the number 1 pick this year just yet. Too much football left to be played with three teams currently holding the same record. We need an edge rusher first and corner second.

At this point, I don't have much hope Thomas will ever live up to this Number #3 selection. But at least they should move him to the interior where he will be more effective. I was surprised to see the number of snaps he has taken from the edge which is most of his snaps. He is ineffective as an edge rusher. He is probably better suited to play Armstead's position. They should probably move one of them during the offseason. I think they can choose to let Armstead walk.

He'd better gain some weight if he does. I just remember the folks on all the draft shows being incredulous that the 49ers took him with the number 3 pick. They made the classic mistake of picking for a need when the right person was not there. They tried to force it and they are paying the price.

We'll my hope would be to move back a little bit to a team like the Giants who need a QB I'm not sure what kind of compensation they would get. It really would depend on how far back they moved. If they could get two firsts or a second and another pick so they can also add another position of need while still getting the kid from Clemson who is very good would be a good move..

Free agency comes before the draft, so you typically sign a FA pass rusher and promote him as the starter He may not be the top free agent, but the idea is go into the draft without a glaring hole.

I'm for drafting a LEO right off the bat, if one really fits and is an every down LEO. This need is so obvious and crucial, you can't get cute trying to obtain more picks. Trying to trade down is a risky business because other teams will trade up. I read it is a strong class but still, IF one really fits then take him right away. You'd only trade down if there are 2-3 guys you rate 'even'.

We always hope this works out but looking back at all drafts, the potential is there but not as high as we hope.

There aren't any decent ones available. When you try to force something that isn't there that's how you end up with a bust like Thomas with the third pick in the draft.
