So what are we doing with Robbins? I saw he was returned to the active roster. Is there a reason? Dude has lost his damn job because Rehkow is a top 5 punter right now. I say just drop him, let him find another job somewhere in the NFL and just move forward.

We probably have the best set of specialist we have ever had here, especially together. I liked Johnson, I liked Breech, I liked Clark, but altogether, this is our best set of specialists I think. Pretty damn happy with them.

I think they had to carry him and return him since he was on IR. IIRC, it is so that when they release him, if for some reason they need to re-sign him (injury, etc....) they will be allowed to.

Only other way was to release him from the IR directly with a settlement - which would preclude them from signing him again this season if they needed to.

Wow.

Was shared in the recap - but it's from Hoard, I think...

With nine punts, Ryan Rehkow doesn't qualify for the NFL lead (he's 1 attempt short). However, his 58.4 average and 49.7 net would not only lead both categories but would be NFL records. The single-season records are 53.1 and 46.0.

I remember you posting that in the Carolina game day thread I think. He has been amazing. Everyone has bad punts, and I am sure he will have a few, same as McPherson missing a few FG's, but overall, what a freaking leg. I was upset the Bengals let the Chiefs sign the Aztec punt God, but now, not so much. Pretty damn happy with Rehkow.

He has now been waived.... I learned today that there was a new rule this year. Players added to IR on the last cutdown day (before the season) had to be IR'd with a designation to return. Each team gets 8 of these designations, but if you use any of them on cutdown day, they have to be designated for return. This is probably done so that people don't try to stash people away from other teams. The pod that I was listening to reminded me that on that day this summer there was really no way to know that Rehkow would be good. He had just had a few rough preseason outings. So, the Bengals were understandably hedging their bets rather than letting Robbins walk with an injury settlement. I did think it was funny though when Bengals twitter lost their collective minds the other day when Robbins was activated from IR.

Yeah, I was wondering how that worked.
