What is the most offensive and derogatory term you could call a native american, if you actually, truly wanted to put them down? The first thing that comes to my mind is 'redskin.' Would the Washington Ni***rs be allowed? Or the L. A. Ch**ks? No? Then change it. Either something new, or just shorten it to 'Reds,' (you know, like Cincinnati baseball).
I wonder how many interviews go like this
Poller(or whatever) "Do you think the Washington Redskins should change their name?
Interviewee "I dunno, why should they change their name?"
P "Because it’s Racist"
I "Oh it is? I never knew that, well yes, then they definitely need to change the name. I didn’t know it was racist…..Hey Jenny did you the name Redskins name was racist?"
J "huh, really?"
Well I don't think the Redskins are hurting for customers, but they'll most likely get hounded to death by political correctness crowd until they change their name.
Never said they were "hurting for customers." My point was that there's more money out there, IF they change the name to something more appropriate.
It's a PR problem as well: Synder is seen as anti-Native American and doesn't seem to care about the Native American community and their feelings. That's the other issue. I am not saying he's, but he's projecting himself as that. Changing the name to something more respectful of the Native American culture will only produce positive results.
You do understand that Redskins is a hurtful term to the Native American community, right? It's not seen as a positive description of them, and quite frankly, I don't see why a sports team, which is suppose to inclusive and non-controversial, should continue to alienate people.
Who even tries to be derogatory to native Americans? Nobody I know.
I grew up right off the Muckleshoot reservation. I saw a lot of derogatory words thrown at them. I sure as fuck wouldn't go around there calling them Redskin, unless you're looking for a fight.
This is exactly why I think the name should be changed. It's an insult term, and something which doesn't match the values in a sports environment. Denying that "Redskin" is an insult, is denying reality.

Curious Sonny, was the term 'redskin' actually being used? Or was it more an emphasis on the adjective preceding the word? Like a 'dirty injun/redskin', people were tossing about as insults? The focus being on the adjective, tone and intent of 'dirty' as the insult, not using the pejorative Indian/Redskin.
It would make a difference.
Context and intent always does, no matter what the word.
Really? Not everyone agrees with you. In fact, a lot, don't. And if you expand that to a world view, not just a US view, they overwhelmingly don't. When you say Washington Redskins, first thought is a football team, not a racial slur. Until the PC police that is...
Tell me, Are you the type to call "man" holes, "people" holes in your pursuit of PC ness? Just curious?

And yet you started ANOTHER thread about this tired, liberally driven drivel. Just stop already.

And if a feminist, do you call menus, "women us"?![]()
Please. Give me a break. I HOPE you were trying to make a joke. And that the 'lame ' is referring to your own lame attempt at one.
I'm referring to individuals who are so concerned about PC BS, that they go out of their way to be PC about everything to the point of ridiculousness.
The above example has absolutely nothing to do with a feminist agenda.
It cites a TRUE absurdity from our own history for changing the terminology of tons of words.
Stewardess to Flight Attendent
Policeman to police officer
Ad nauseum.
Where does the BS end?
Idiots tried to get females to give a shit about what things were to be called. Manholes was one of the stupider ideas, some idiots thought women should be upset about about the fact that that word lacked inclusivity.
I scoffed then at the PC agenda and I continue to do so today.
I do however follow the Golden Rule, and interact and speak to others the way I want to be treated.
Seems you have the agenda MHSL, pigeon holing women with the feminist label. I'd look to your own behavior and attitudes, before making any grand assumptions as to how I think.
Referring to them by their race in any form would not be a good idea IMO.
