Well, at least we've got him around for one more. That is one more year to stay healthy and prove that he is worth that kind of contract. It stinks to get hit a little bit extra, but maybe this is a good thing in the long run.

I wonder if they placed the non exclusive franchise tag on him if teams wanted to sign him they would have to give up 2 first round picks

Apparently they used the non exclusive tag. How ever this just got more interesting....

If Orakpo plays next season on the one-year franchise deal, it possibly could cost the Redskins more than $13 million. The franchise player tag for a linebacker is worth $11.455 million. But a person close to the situation said team officials realize Orakpo could argue he deserves the franchise player figure for a defensive end of $13.116 million, based on the number of snaps he played at each position last season.

I doubt any one is going to make him an offer. I do think the NFLPA will back an Orakpo play to be considered a DE based on the number of snaps he took from that position, much as they are pushing to have Jimmy Grahams tag count as a WR. So basically its might cost us twice as much against the cap as it would to just sign him long term.

tell you what dude, I want you to come work for me. I will pay you 75% of the going rate for what ever it is you do. But I expect you to produce at the level of every one else doing your particular job who is getting paid at the going rate. And in fact, if you over perform, Im still going to pay you at that 75% rate. Because after all you agreed to it originally.

Do we have a deal??
