Tubbs is completely wrong, though. He honestly doesn't know what he's talking about regarding this particular subject.

You are right. Hanigan is the key to our team. How dumb could I be.

He is not the key to our team, he is just an important piece to our team. I can't help it if you look at home runs as the basis of whether a player is good or valueable to their team.

Jay Bruce hits a lot of home runs, but I would rank his importance to the team less than Hanigan's.

And as CincyGrad said here, how the heck is a guy supposed to drive in many runs, when the guys in front of him hitting for the past several years has ended most rallies, leaving Hanigan to bat with no one on most of the time, and when he does get on, who was following him in the lineup?

The Pitcher, Drew Stubbs, Zack Cozart, Brandon Phillips struggled like hell in the leadoff role, etc. These guys all hit a combined like .220ish range with a .250ish OBP. THE PITCHERS almost produced as well as our leadoff hitters.

Then you forget about the importance he has with the pitchers. Listen to Hanigan talk about pitching and calling a game sometime, you will be highly impressed. He is a future manager in the making. He is extremely smart, is bilingual, is a great defenesive catcher and gets nothing to ever hit batting where he does in our lineup.

I am not being defensive, only stating an obvious fact you fail to realize. There are very very few people in all of baseball that would agree with you, based on power numbers.

I think MOST teams would prefer Hanigan over their current starting catcher.

I think the Reds should sign Rod Barajas. He can handle a staff.

Very good point! LOL But Barajas can hit a home run, so Tubbs probably would love him.

Again it's not all about HR, it's offensive production in general and Hanigan is in the bottom 1/4th of that in the MLB.

You put Buster Posey 8th in our lineup and I bet he would hit more home runs, but outside that, I bet his offensive production is only marginally better with no one to drive in other than himself, and no one to drive him in once he gets on.

Hanigan would be the ideal #2 hitter on this team, but with his speed and the fact Dusty Baker would never hit a catcher 2nd in his lineups because they would clog the bases, Hanigan will always struggle with production.

He would get a whole lot more pitches batting in front of Joey Votto.

I do not have to tell myself that, because I know it is a fact. However, no one in their right mind would bat Posey 8th in any damn lineup in the league. With that said, if he was batting 8th in our lineup, his run production would not improve except in the fact his OBP would be around .500 from being walked and pitched around all the time, and outside of the 15 home runs he would hit, he wouldn't score or drive in many more runs than Hanigan is.

Why only 15 home runs? Because he would never get anything to hit!

There is a reason Hanigan is batting 8th, he isn't good enough to bat anywhere else. You don't bat a .260 - .270 hitter 2nd. That is absolutely retarded to even think that.

He would hit for a higher average if he actually got some better pitches to hit. How many good solid strikes you think he is getting hitting in front of a pitcher and a leadoff spot batting .220 with a .250 OBP?

They have been saying all of last year and so far this year, with the exception of Choo now, Hanigan has the best bat control of anyone on the team outside Votto. He gives one of the best professional at bats on the team, battles pitchers and works counts. Dusty has been on record saying, he doesn't feel comfortable putting Hanigan anywhere else, because there is no one else on teh team he would trust to hit in front of his pitchers, because that guy is rarely going to see a good pitch to hit and wants to limit the number of strikeouts in that spot of the lineup, so he can get his pitcher to the plate to flip the order the following inning. Hanigan is his best hit and run player on the team.

You keep telling yourself what you need to hear to justify your reasoning, right or wrong.

And you do the same. And tell that to the team last year when he watched strike 3 on a hit and run in the playoffs fucking the Reds over.

Not possible anyone has ever missed a sign in baseball huh? Or had it 100% confirmed in the media that it was a hit and run and Hanigan didn't swing? Or was that your interpretation of the events?

You don't steal with the guys you had on base unless it was a hit and run. Everyone in the world knew that was supposed to be a hit and run.
