I am not from WV, but I have always liked their program. Before my son got his first offer I told him there were two school that he wanted offers from because of their fans. They were WVU and Tennessee. I was extremely excited when WVU offered him. I personally love the Coaching Staff. I love the way they have recruited my son and the direction they are going. I fully understand the challenges of going from the Big East to the Big 12. I know it is hard for WVU to recruit because they really don't have the players within the state so they have to recruit in other states against those states home schools like OSU in Ohio and FSU in Florida. The thing that really bothers me , and I am certain most recruits, is the constant wanting the Coaches fired. Recruits want to play for the Coaches recruiting them. Constantly changing coaches is what has crippled Indiana in the Big 10. Coach Holgorsen is a very good coach. The fans need to be patient and let him continue to improve the program. I see great things happening in Morgantown, support your coaches and your team. Recruits will not commit to a program that they fear wont have the staff that recruited them.

And what else needs to be said??:suds:

I have been saying that for years. Recruits can read the message boards too.

There will always be that group that wants RR back or wants a new coach to get better. With a vocal fan base, those guys will let their opinions be known.. Wherever you are, if a coach does not win, he will not stay. Having a coach on the hot seat hurts recruiting. Having fans constantly berate the coaches and calling for their heads hurts too.

There watching us:think:

Most CFB coaches get fired. If a kid doesn't understand that then imo he ain't ready for big time D1 football.
I think we would all like to get the coach that wins, relates to the fan base and does it the right way and keep him for years and years but... Don't always work that way.

I don't buy that stuff about message boards having an effect on recruits coming either. If that were the case we would never miss on one before watching him play at this level because we all know that WVU recruits are super human until proven otherwise

:agree:If a kid is swayed by a post on here that doesn't worship the coach, do we want that kid? The kids get it, coaches anymore do not stay like they once did, they move up or get fired pretty quickly, and the kid is signing with the school, NOT the coach. If I were a kid considering WVU, if I read all flowing comments following the last three seasons, I would be more concerned than if I read things showing the fans displeasure with sub oar seasons......

So I take it then that both of you, Dad and Rush, believe that the above post by a recruits father is clearly a fake. Recruits don't look at the message boards and are making a commitment to a school and whoever is the coach does not matter, or whether the coach will be around for a while is immaterial.

:wtf2:, no one said anything about it being fake, this kid listened to his dad, not a sports forum on the www. The kids dad is obviously a long time WVU and UT fan and tried to steer his son to one of those schools. Would you expect a guy sending his son to the school he chose to pour piss all over the coaches his son will be playing for? I have NEVER heard of a kid saying he was not going to a school because a fan had posted a negative comment on a message board, it is laughable. I can hear it now, a potential recruit telling the reason he went to sPitt: " I loved the WVU facilities, their coaches said I would fit into the system quickly, the campus was beautiful, they had the field of study I am interested, but I just can't go there because WVUDAD doesn't like Holgorsen, so I will be going to sPitt, they have shitty facilities, shitty coaches, shitty campus, and lack my field of study, but they all post rosey thoughts on their sportshoopla board" :omg::lol:

So if social media can sway a kid we don't want him....damn boys not going to leave us much options if we think that....check twitter out if you think this stuff does not matter to recruits.

And there are a shit ton of great players that are swayed by this so let's not shut the door on that....you guys crack me up, you want a roster 95% or more made of of kids from other states just to have blind loyalty to WVU ..you never cease to amaze.

And I thought DC was writing this about Tax Break.

I guess some of you guys do not have kids. All 4 of mine are constantly on Twitter, Instagram, Vine, and Facebook. These kids are riding the wave of modern technology. I would want to know everything about a program before committing to it for 4 years. Not saying that something said on here would be the final decision, but could add something to the final decision.

Im gonna need some proof of that. I've seen many a reason for a recruit to sign with this or that school but never once have I seen one that stated that a message board or any other electronic device being the deciding factor....

Except maybe an email stating that the bagman had delivered uncle TBone his care package ect..

Get on twitter and follow the recruits.....you will see it all the time. Do they mention it in their press conference...no...but they sure do talk about it a lot and if you follow some of them you can see where things said on twitter and posted other places have put a bad light on some programs.

If you want some examples I know of personally look at some of the recruits these last couple of years that we have battled with Pitt...myself and others kept tweeting pics of fan turnouts, coaching changes, and other little things we would find, this helped with two I know of for sure...:suds:

And it is crazy to think that this is the only deciding factor, but it plays a big role.

Congrats to your family DC. As far as the eer's fan's. They love their football, but like most fans, many are still stuck in the days they played and think everything is just like way back when.

Tell your son to ignore the mouth pieces on the internet, work on his degree program and go get some.

I appreciate it, but I should have put on here this is not my son. My bad. This was something that has been going around on twitter and a message board by one of our recruits father.

My son was born 2 weeks ago today....I wish he was getting offers already....lol

Anyone who thinks social media is not a huge influence on our youth today has not been paying much attention. I watch my 14 and 15 year olds kids in my home walk around with their smart phones and they never put them down. They are constantly tweeting and communicating with their "friends" via SM. My son will say I am going to talk to Grace (his girlfriend) and then he will sit over there in a chair staring at his phone and laughing and typing. When I ask "I thought you were going to talk to Grace?" he says - I AM. I'm Kicking her (Kick is a new app - go figure).

Back in my day - I wanted to hear her voice. Today - kids are more comfortable texting and posting selfies. Their "friends" are online people they don't know and have never met - but they are good friends (in their minds). Hell, people fall in love and get engaged to people online that they not only have never met - but they have never even spoken to them on a phone, heard their voice. But they have an artificial connection that is totally imaginary - and that seems to be the norm these days. So - I wouldn't dismiss what a kid sees online as having an impact on their decision process. It may not be the whole equation - but it could provide the tipping point.... For us old-timers, it is a brave new world out there that is simply outside of our frame of reference.

I don't care if message boards are full of Negative Nancy/Debbie Downers who all want to see the lame HC get fired.

And, I don't care if fans boo the kids on the field of play when recruits are in the stands.

This is the WVU fanbase. A bunch of bandwagon fans who will tell you how great they are... then never show up for a game... nor give you a penny for a MAC contribution.

Recruits need to understand what they're getting with WVU before they make their decision to come play for these fans. It is the reality of their choice...

Damn, schools are sure wasting a bunch of money then, a few months ago kids were swayed by how deluxe the stadiums were, then they were swayed by how hot the name of the coach is, now they are swayed more by what I post on here. Pretty stupid to spend all that money on coaches and stadiums, when they could just be paying a grad assistant a stipend to twitter how much he loves the coach and we would be getting all the five star kids we want.

I am available and I wouldn't charge much since I really only use the 2 fingers to type.

Your really not to far off.....sometimes this fanbase is delusional because of a three year period in our history.
