Does he still have some good play left in him ????....Drafted #1 over all in 2008 and went to 4 straight Pro Bowls out of the gate, but been riddled with injuries since then and sat out most of last yr with a second ACL injury.
But says that did him good because he finally had time to heal completely...Passed his physical and full go with Doc....
Harbs wants his experience for the rookie Stanley and a solid backup for him, gotta protect Joe "Elite" Flacco better than last yr for sure......
What say ye, comrades ????? Who did we get, the Pro Bowl JL or the IR JL ????

He's a good guy but he was always hurt in his latter years with the Fins and that was years ago...

Rams gave him a 4yr deal but he evidently tried to come back too soon and re injured the ACL....I don't know why Atlanta signed him while still recovering from the second one though....
Anyway, I'm wondering is he's telling the truth about totally healthy after the long time off last yr.
Makes sense, and he passed his physical and Ozzie got the doc release or he wouldn't be here now....
Stanley is our starter, so he'd just be a back up and mentor, maybe they figure he can stay healthy in that role instead of starting 16 games...

If he stays healthy, the Ravens got a stud. If he gets hurt again, they got a dud.

As it goes with every player in the NFL. IMO, a good signing.

I wonder if he got the vet minimum. Steve Keim has done wonders for the Cards signing older vets. To me, it's worth the risk if they got him for the vet minimum.

It's a good pick up and worth the risk. All about adding depth which is key.

It's definitely scary, that knee has got to be a mess. If he's good to go it's a nice signing though.

Best case scenario is that Long truly is healthy and our LT while Stanley plays his first year as our LG.

I read last night that he still has to be looked at by a knee specialist before they actually sign the contract, differing from earlier reports that he had already been signed.....He says he's healthier than he's been in yrs, but that could be the ego talking.
This Dr Andrews is the one that did both knee surgeries so I expect he would know more than anyone else if Jake is ready to go as a back up player...
Haven't heard anything since last night on it though, have you ?

As with everything depends on the contract. Most likely though because of injury and people not busting down his door to sign him it is a low risk contract with very little actually guaranteed with what I would call medium reward in return. So good deal depending on the money as if nothing else he can be a great mentor to the young guy Stanley in getting him up to speed of what it will take to make it in the NFL as a LT. We see way too many high pick LT's take years to develop if they ever develop. This new CBA has probably hurt OL players more than any other group because of the lack of contact helping them to actually be ready for games.

Agree with the majority. It's all about the $$$. Never hurts having a quality vet on the team. Maybe he can be used to help the coaches with what's legal and what isn't:noidea:

If healthy, he'll be passable at tackle. He's 31 and has torn his knee twice; his mobility on the blind side isn't going to be what it once was.
