If the Garza deal doesn't happen, make a push for Ervin Santana JD
Interesting thought. Really fine start against Detroit tonight. He's had some amazing starts over the past few years, but he seems to have become more consistent this year. No idea if KC even wants to deal him.
KC GM says he won't trade him, which would be silly on his part as he is a FA after the season. If offered the right pieces he should make his team better. I was at the Santana start vs Darvish in Arlington earlier this season and he looked great. He is having his best year in awhile and he has been an AL pitcher vs trying to add a guy w some success in the NL and watching him underperform as we have seen before. I brought this up about a week ago for the first time and I'm sure JD could get it done. It could be as good or maybe better than the Garza deal
another rental that will cost way too much
Former Cubs almost never do well in a trade situation to a contender in my shaky memory at least. The Cubs are the lovable losers and their players carry the stink of being losers with them to new teams. I like Garza a bunch but he is a Cub so I have a healthy dose of worry that he will be a weak performer after joining the Rangers. I would love to be wrong but every trade does not work out and this one is a tad scary to me.I'm betting he costs less, and might be a good way to get trade talks going with KC...maybe other names (cough cough Alex Gordon cough cough) come up when KC gets excited about some of our young guys.
Plus, we have had good success with former Angels coming to Texas. Not so much with former Cubs.

Centered on Neil Rameriz, I've heard.seems the cubs are gawking on medicals. Garza has the screw in the elbow, I guess Olt has concussion issues. I dont even know why the cubs want this centered around Olt.
Do you think this deal slows down today because the next start by Garza would probably not be until Monday at the earliest?Centered on Neil Rameriz, I've heard.
Seems to have slowed down already. Haven't heard a iota of news coming out compared to yesterday. I would not tell Garza he's going to be traded until it's factual. I would suspect something announced by Monday night.Do you think this deal slows down today because the next start by Garza would probably not be until Monday at the earliest?
Cubs are waiting for a Boston or LA oir NY to come in and Raise the Biding, add a Sweetener to the pot. Cubs have no reason to Rush, they have got what everyone covits, they are not under pressure . Only the Biders
You are correct. They've got a few days, though I do believe they may be motivated to move him before his next start as his value is pretty damn high right now.
Isn't his start today?
No start by Garza today. He did a BP session yesterday and Monday is the next likely time he would pitch. I figure Cubs will try and do the deal by Sunday night so the winner can have Garza for Monday night games after he travels to new team location. I believe I read this on ESPN somewhere but I do not have a link to it.Isn't his start today?
Like to see how Peavy pitches this afternoon. Rangers should cover their tails and send some scouts there, if they haven't already.
