2nd favorible pitching match up so we need to take advantage of it today.
Yes, but Gattis and Gomez are more likely to put the ball in the seats. That's what you can't let happe there. That's why I want Dyson's sinker ball eating them up.
I agree with that some myself. I especially felt that way when we only had half of a bullpen that was worth much. I used to say that managers like Wash kept going through their bullpen until they found a guy who could lose the game for them when they had to change pitchers once an inning. Hopefully we have such a deep pen this year that that won't worry me as much as it used to.My dad of course being old school when there was not such things as closers always felt that if the guy in there was doing the job in the late innings like Dyson was mowing them down then leave him in there. He hated taking out a hot pitcher to bring in a guy who may not be. I kind of agree with him.
It seems like Banny thinks the starter needs to come out just barely past that 100 pitch count. It used to be that they didn't start thinking that way until about 120-125 or so.Read today that he is averaging 18.7 pitches per inning. Did not realize that. But he is one of those pitchers who has the stamina to throw a high pitch count and still be strong. So I think you're right in that he could have gone another inning and I too liked how he looked in the 5th. At least Willhemsen didn’t come in.
You know Nicholas is starting to grow on me. He handles himself well behind the plate and puts decent wood on the ball. Hope Holaday gets it going now too.
Its something when you think how many pitches a pitcher threw in the past. I mean they would pitch both games of a DHer. I know athletes are much more advanced and probably more strain on their arms with the variety of pitches they throw but that was crazy back then.It seems like Banny thinks the starter needs to come out just barely past that 100 pitch count. It seems like to me they used to do that the first start or two, but then they took off the kid gloves. I don't mean lately, but 15 years ago or so. Maybe I am remembering it wrong, but it seems like it was different back then.its also early in the season. If this were mid-season form, I could see sending Holland out there for 1 more inning (or at least attempt the 6th). But this early? Nah..
